Keith Ellison-"I'm not gonna be the one who helps the Republicans get rid of Barack Obama."
Edited on Mon Dec-06-10 06:31 PM by jenmito
He just said that on The Ed Show and I'm so glad he did! Ed was, as usual, attacking Obama for "giving the Republicans everything they want," and Ellison pointed out that it's because of the REPUBS. that Obama is compromising.

He also pointed out that this will help the unemployed and the lower and middle-class, adding to his "progressive friends," that for every attack they make on the President, he hopes they'll attack the REPUBS. who are the ones holding the middle class tax cuts hostage for tax cuts for the rich. I didn't put it in quotes because I was paraphrasing. Thanks, Keith!

25. Some DUers have forgotten who the REAL enemy is, and it sure as hell isn't the POTUS.
Those who want to play primary games and let Republicans back into power will REALLY have something to wring their hands about then.

Edited on Mon Dec-06-10 06:36 PM by liberal N proud
The GOP's no one goal is to beat Obama in 2012. Nothing else has the importance and all else is used to attack him.

Even this current tax situation.

So here we have a huge crowd on the left who will willfully destroy a sitting Democratic President allowing the GOP to reign again over things which they know are designed to throw the election in 2 years.

13. Ed asked Keith his opinion on what he just heard, and he blamed the REPUBS.
for it. Ed then asked him if he thinks the Repubs. won, and he said not really, since they wanted PERMANENT tax cuts. Thanks AGAIN, Keith!

15. If President Obama uses their blatant disregard for the deficit to protect SS
since obviously the deficit can't be such a big deal that it prevents their tax cuts, cuts to social security must not be necessary either.

Right?

If he points that out every chance he gets over the next two years he can salvage this. Maybe.

18. Ed Schultz is a twit-wad
And thanks to Ed Schultz, I now watch Fox news at the 6pm hour. If I'm going to listen to a bloviating idiot attack the President, I'd rather it NOT be someone in my own party.

21. I know, he has good people on his show....
.... I always enjoyed the fact that he seemed to have more members of Congress on than the other four MSNBC shows.

But I am just not going to tolerate it. He's an idiot.

I dont mind disagreeing with the President. Keith, Rachel and Lawrence do it all of the time. But it's always clear they've at least read up on what they're talking about.

28. He also had a side note for progressives:
He said keep banging on President Obama and what you'll get is a Republican president and a world of hurt. This punctuates the absurdity of Nader's argument in 2000 that there is no difference between the parties.

32. Ellis is now Co-Chair of the Progressive Caucus.
As such I was pleasantly surprised by him today. He clearly wants to bring the party together rather than ripping it apart with divisive rhetoric. I find myself torn between that and Sen. Bernie Sanders who hinted at filibustering the settlement agreement.

I need to mull this over a bit.

K&R btw. :hi:

33. Exactly...
I think Ed thought he'd have someone as outraged at Obama as HE was, but Ellis put the blame where it belonged. I don't think a filibuster would do anything but guarantee NO passage of the repeal of DADT, SALT, DREAM Act, etc.

Thanks for the K&R. :hi:

30. And now I suppose
that there will be a loud contingency here equating Keith Ellison with (name your worst enemy) and labeling him a Blue Dog traitor. People don't listen, much less think. We really have gone through the looking glass.

Thank you, Congressman Ellison, for injecting some thoughtfulness and rationality into the discussion. Not that it will convince anyone already convinced of their rectitude.

35. This is the new co-leader of the progressive caucus
and he is apparently selling us out right along with Obama. God help us says this atheist, because we really need it. The Democrats are still the MAJORITY party in both chambers. If they care more about helping the unemployed (including the 99rs who get nothing out of this deal) and not giving the rich Bush's big giveaway all over again, all they have to do is get rid of the filibuster. They appear to care more about the filibuster and don't really seem to care about this massive giveaway to the rich.
