Mike Papantonio: "We wanted Obama to fight the good ol' boy club...
...but now I wonder if he wants to be part of it."

On Big Ed's radio show right now.

Mike pointed out that Obama grew up as an outsider and maybe now likes being an insider.

2. He'll never be an insider with the GOP good ol' boys club, and I don't think
they've ever extended the invite or behaved in any way that he could interpret as "you're one of us".

Love Pap, but I don't buy this.

4. WANTS to be part of?
HE's been a member of the political power club for at least 5-6 years. He got a taste of it in the State House and he likes it.

...some people just can't wait to belong - and once they do they're not about to give it up.

7. let's be real...
he now has a fat wallet, he has a big ass house, a big servant staff, a basketball court on site and calls on pro athletes to come play with him.

And for the REST of his life? Multi Million dollar book deals, $100,000 per speech fees and the adoration of the free world for life...

Life is good.

10. Maybe it makes a difference if you come from nothing and then get all you mentioned...
Seems liberals who were born with it - the Kennedys come to mind - manage to fight for Democratic principles in spite of their cushy lives.

14. What a load of shit.
He faces more assassination threats than any other president before him, but you think the fact that he gets a nice house and a basketball court is the reason he took the job.

16. "Deffo"? What kind of word is that?
And I seem to recall the SS didn't help JFK out on that fateful day.

You're painting Obama as some sort of bling-obsessed rapper type. I seriously doubt you'd say the same about Clinton or any other president. Clearly, the promise of a basketball court and a nice house is all it took to entice his simple mind.

21. uhh, "bling-obsessed rapper type" ?
Nowhere in the previous posting was that ever mentioned. Don't turn a discussion into some sort of racist BS when it wasn't there in the first place.

But social climbing IS something that is universal. Grass is always greener - especially when you can afford a lawn care service. And 60K a year, with SS protection for 10 years is a GREAT golden parachute after 4 years work. And that doesn't include the book tours, paid speechifying, etc.

22. It was certainly implied.
And it fits a pattern I've seen on this site -- things said towards Obama that would never be said towards a white president. Things like how his completely democratic election was an "experiment," addressing him with "Yo," saying how he was chosen so black people wouldn't riot (that was posted yesterday, I believe), etc.

The very notion that somebody can post that Obama-- risking severe harm to himself and his family, dealing with people who hate him for his skin color, and many other downsides-- is just in it for the money and perks is insulting and illogical.

As soon as somebody posts similar things about Clinton or any white candidate, then I'll believe some of this bullshit isn't race-based.

You are the one deflecting. When I saw you had no concern over the racism that pops up on this site by refusing to address those links, I pointed out your very own hypocrisy. Nice try.

Edited on Tue Dec-07-10 04:57 PM by Starbucks Anarchist
I pointed out the racial code words in his post already and *then* pointed out those links to show it's part of a pattern here, despite you telling me it's "all in your head."

In fact, many posts about racism are shut down by people who think just like you do. I didn't deflect anything, but you are deflecting the scourge of racism. Because when it comes from our side, it's okay, right?

That's why you couldn't even address those links either, because it wouldn't fit in with your worldview, yet you use the excuse of "they're not in this thread," as if that makes their existence okay.

39. All politicians, eventually
like being insiders. All of them. That's why they keep running for reelection. They like the power, money, greed, status, etc., more than actually helping people.
