It's not America's fault that you only heard what you wanted to hear during the campaign"

Just waiting for that. No different than what we hear on the topic of a public option for health care.

2. Obama never ran on
allowing all the tax cuts to expire.

He ran on extending the middle class tax cuts. He got a lot more out the compromise.

Republicans are holding middle-class Americans hostage.

12. What it tells me is
Yes, democrats need to get the message out much better than they have, that includes the president, but it also tells me that the right wing TROLLS that seem to have taken over the debate here on DU, have, like the republicans in congress, done a far better job of dividing people, and stirring up trouble here than logic reasoning from those here who understand that things are great, but their a damned site better than if McCain had won, and will be a damned site better with Obama in office for another term than if we manage to screw things up with a "primary" challenger, or staying at home an not getting out to vote like happened this time because we are not "happy" with everything that has happened in less than two years! Bush got 8 years to screw it up, yet so many here can't give credit to the president for what he "has" done, which is one hell of a lot, instead they piss and moan about the fact he kept millions from not getting an extension on their unemployment, and stopped taxes from going up for the middle class!

What gets me is so many here say the republicans will NEVER give in, and I agree, so what would have happened if there were no compromise? Millions with no money during the holidays, higher taxes on millions who could not afford it, and the republicans would have taken gotten their "permanent" tax cuts pushed through next year because they control the house, and most likely had enough democrat in the senate to get the passed there also!

Yes things could be better, but they are a hell of a lot better than if we had McCain and that idiot from Alaska in the WH!

11. three-quarters of Americans are against tax cuts for the rich
If a president can't make it happen with those numbers, he doesn't want it to happen.

6. He clearly stated today that he ran on that.
He isn't trying to obscure the debate at all. He is being 100% honest about the situation, what he said in the past and whats happening now. You can disagree with his position, but you have acknowledge that he has not changed his stance on what he thinks should ultimately happen.

8. Also, did he not run on promising not to raise income taxes on the middle class?
If you are going to pick at campaign promises, that goes both ways.

9. That's correct. And when he said change, he meant nickles and dimes.
That you didn't get that isn't his fault. :hide:
