http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1209/30553.html

In a move that senior leadership aides say has left them stunned, Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-CT) has told Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) that he will filibuster a tentative public option compromise unless it's stripped of its key component: a measure that would allow people aged 55-64 to buy insurance through Medicare.

The development casts substantial doubt on whether or not a health care reform bill can pass in the Senate, and even more doubt on whether a bill that does pass the Senate will be reconcilable with substantially more progressive House legislation in such a way that a final reform package can once again pass in both chambers of Congress.

1. So sick of him
Damn, I wish Obama could just come out and blast this process for how ridiculous it's become. The entire country's future is being held up by 40 Republicans, 1 "independent" and a handful of conservative Democrats. I wish he's come out and fire-and-brimstone about how this isn't the way to handle the country's business. Somebody needs to force the Senate to do what must be done to get around the Liebermans of the world here. He just keeps holding out the carrot and then pulling it away as soon as the Dems think it's close enough to grab.

They need to either get enough Dems on board to say to hell with it, we're just going nuclear. It may seem crazy, since when we lose power again, it will hurt our agenda. But frankly, this moment is too important to waste.

2. NO NO NO!!! Pass something HORRIBLE then change it in joint committee!! People, we've gone over this
...already that the house and senate bills have to be merged then voted on after he merging by both congressional bodies.

AFTER.....AFTER committee we only need 51 votes to pass the senate making Lieberman et al a non issue.

Pass junk, change it in committee pass what we want by 51% in house and senate...

Reid is dragging his foot again...

4. The bill would still face a 60 vote test after the conference
You are incorrect.

5. Love to see them filibuster a final bill though
That's where it would get mother&*^*&^ nasty!!

I think we should revolt and eject Lieberman from office. I wish a Senator could be recalled - he'd be shot out of office like a cannonball.
