Sen McConnell: Agreement On Tax Cuts Is 'Essentially Final'

WASHINGTON -(Dow Jones)- Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R., Ky.) said Tuesday that an agreement reached with the White House to extend tax cuts across the board is "essentially final."

He said in a brief press conference that he doesn't yet have a procedural agreement with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D., Nev.) to bring legislation to the floor. But McConnell said it is his belief that the Senate will vote on the plan before the House.

"The vast majority of members in the U.S. Senate will feel this is a step in the right direction," McConnell said.

In the same briefing, Sen. Jon Kyl (R., Ariz.) said some specifics with regard to what was agreed to must still be negotiated.
