Poll question: Did the press conference change your mind about Obama's tax cut deal? |
|
I was mostly persuaded until his vehement denunciation of progressives at the end. It didn't unsell me on the compromise, but I kind felt like someone just kicked me in the nuts after I agreed with him.
What's your take?

1. I liked the press conference but I already was convinced |
|
he did the right thing. I also love his "schooling" of the left at the end. He was right too. Is it progressive to leave all those people without benefits? The unemployment tax drop is nice too. (My husband was laid off Monday. It sucks.)
I really don't think people here give a shit about the deficit. It's all about the unfairness of giving the rich something when they already have so much. But if one has to give in to help others then that's the way it has to be FOR PEOPLE WHO LIVE IN THE REAL WORLD.
The high horses around here are sure leaving a lot of dung.

3. Was there any way he could have used an Executive Order |
|
Or reconciliation to keep unemployment benefits from being dropped? I would have respected him a lot more if he'd tried something other than just rolling over - yet again - to the repukes.

4. Just don't defend any of the future Catfood austerity shit based on "the deficit" |
|
Although I have a strong feeling that there will be all kinds of born again deficit hawks here on DU when the President signals his support for cutting entitlements.

5. regular people don't car about deficits, but they can be used as an excuse to cut programs |
|
for the middle class and poor, and unfortunately, Obama's centrism means he will give those who want to do the cuts a hearing.

2. I think the whole deal sucks!! |
|
But the republicans made sure he couldn't get what WE (the left) wanted. But he's the boss and when it comes right down to it. He's the one who is going to take the fall from this compromise. Unfortunately it may be the end of him politically.
