To Adam Green, Ed Schultz, Glenn Greenwald, Bernie Sanders, and everyone else
who's blaming Obama for "breaking his promise," you obviously don't understand how govt. works. He obviously WANTED to extend tax cuts for only those making $250,000 or less, but couldn't get it done, because CONGRESS couldn't get it done.

Obama had every right to "lash out" at those who attack him regularly, even though they're supposed to be Democrats. He gets enough BS from the RWers. He doesn't need it from those of us on the LEFT, since he is doing the best he can to fulfill his promises.

If Ed Schultz asks one more person if this is "Obama's Waterloo," I'm never going to watch him again and I'm going to use my enormous clout ;) to get OTHERS to stop watching him, too.

14. How about taking some of the advice Progressives love to lavish on the President?
How the hell is anyone expected to fear the power of Progressive influence when the favorite pastime seems to be crying over being "lashed out" at?

A bunch of people regularly interpret every damned negotiation that has to be made in Washington - negotiations with blatantly, consistently obstructionist Republicans - as a slap at Progressives. Then a bunch of people cry to each other about it on the internet and call the President names because he's being mean to them for calling them out about some pretty damned imperceptive backseat complaints about what's not being done right or at all.

But he can't call the Left out for not appreciating any of this effort? Because then they'll REALLY show him?

Good luck with that approach. Progressives with that mindset will never be happy with the way ANYTHING is done in Washington. And go figure - that's exactly one of the points the President made.

Trust - you'll try to find a hero you can believe in - someone who can only SAY what they'll do because there's no way in hell they can actually fortell the future in Washington - and if they ascend and begin to actually GOVERN, they'll be next on the Progressive chopping block as a disappointing failure to do things according to an unrealistic vision and expectations.

30. A day of infamy indeed
Obama is now done as the leader of the Democratic party. He has proven to be incompetent and a terrible leader, getting run over by the Repubs every time. He should of let all the tax cuts expire and made the American people understand that their coming tax hike is courtesy of the Republican party. There will be a primary challenge, which will likely fail but be a blood bath followed by a Republican landslide. Enjoy!

21. jenmito ...Why would a Democratically Elected President "LASH OUT" at his Supporters?
I would like to hear your opinion on this...because I do understand that you support him thinking he's doing the best for America and those who Voted for Him....but why is it that those who voted for him seem to have clashes about where he is taking us...that some of us see and are really angry ...but others who voted for him...think he is doing just what they voted for him for.

There is a disconnect...and I'm not wanting to get in an argument with you...but to understand how as a Democratic supporter of Obama you don't seem to understand those of us who also supported him who are really FREAKING OUT at what WE SEE as his CAPITULATION....TIME AFTER TIME...making us Dems almost a THIRD PARTY in the WILDERNESS...while Pandering to the RIGHT WING PIT BULLS.

That's extreme but it's where it is with SERIOUS DEMS thinking these days.

So...why do YOU still have faith in him...and can YOU CONVINCE ME...to hold with him as My Dem President when he trashes us..at every opportunity.

I don't like feeling like I'm being BEATEN UP when I gave money..worked for Dems my whole long life.

You need to explain in more detail WHY you still can think that President Obama is working for Democratic Ideals? Or, do you believe the Democratic Leadership Council under Clinton...is the WAY TO GO? Deregulation/Triangulation? Giving the country to Banksters ...bailing out those who CORRUPTED AND TRASHED American PEOPLE?

Do you understand that. What do you say? What do you THINK?

29. I consider it VENTING, being frustrated for being attacked daily by his
supposed base on a daily basis on the air, in blogs, and in newspapers.

I see him doing the best he can with the congress he has. He states his positions, he wants to get his policies passed, (like closing Gitmo, ending DADT, and on and on), and congress doesn't get his agenda passed. Yet HE gets beaten up every single day.

38. Like I said,
I think the supposed Dem. base is attacking him because some of the policy positions HE said he wanted haven't come to pass. I think it's misplaced anger-it should be at the CONGRESS, because if there were 535 Obamas in congress, Gitmo would be closed, there'd be no tax cut extensions for the rich, etc.

This is his deal, what he wants, not what we wanted, and we do not like his lack of fight, which is total, he never, ever advocates, his DOJ argues in favor of hate laws, and goes after medical marijuana, while they say torture and illegal was was just fine.
Sick of the double standard Judge man. Who the fuck does he think he is talking to? I am sick of his insults to me and my family. I'm not a Republican, not an Evangelical, and he says I'm not 'sanctified' whatever the fuck that nonsense means.

27. I support Ed Shultz and for what he is expressing
Edited on Tue Dec-07-10 07:36 PM by DontTreadOnMe
I never thought I would see the day that DUers would support Bush Policies.

There are those who say this is the best "deal" we could get, they don't realize how far over the top they have gone.

The COMPLETE FAILURE of Obama was that he LET THE REPUBLICANS package together unemployment benefits and taxes.

These are two completely different issues. When you let the other side frame the negotiation, you have lost before any negotiating even starts.

This entire situation is a result of poor leadership. Anyone trying to defend the "deal" doesn't realize that Obama got an "F" in negotiating.
And there is no quick fix for this image of a bad negotiator. The Republicans are going to USE THIS AGAINST HIM AGAIN!

...poor negotiating on health care reform
...poor negotiating on financial reform
...poor negotiating on tax cuts for the rich

...poor negotiating on entitlement cuts IS NEXT!
...permanent extensions of tax cuts IS NEXT!

THE NUMBER ONE REASON FOR THE DEFICIT EXPLOSION IS THE BUSH POLICY, THAT ENABLES THE RICH TO GET RICHER -- while starving the beast -- and making the middle class pay for it all on our grand chilren's credit card.

If this is the BEST DEAL we could get, then you better hang your head low with shame.

And there will be those who will defend Obama all the way, no matter how many facts are shown to them.

"it's the only deal we could get" is not satisfactory!

The Progressive voters are moving on, we got fooled. No more wasted effort on a failure.

56. I agree Jen - if the House had passed a budget we wouldn't
even be having this conversation. The Senate could have passed the middle class tax cuts with reconciliation. Or if they would have done it in 2009. They screwed up, pissed away a road map to pass it without 60 votes in the Senate and are now laying it all on Obama.

And Mary F-in Landreiu - paaaaleeeezzzzeee. If she wouldn't have been such an obstructionist on legislation we wouldn't have taken up so much time in the Senate on other issues and they could have dealt with this earlier.

...get his butt kicked next election for the incredibly irresponsible deal he's cut. I only hope there's someone to run against him, either in this party or a third. If not, we'll have a Republican president, who will continue these same disgusting policies.

73. Sometimes they do it for Emphasis....when they feel need to get point across...
even if it seems "shouting." Sometimes "bolding" just doesn't express the angst of the individual poster that they would hope others would see.....just saying how I feel about using the "Full Caps." I know there are many who would disagree with me...but I still think what I said......

72. You know...that's an excellent point you make...Somehow Dems who voted for Obama, worked and donated
just don't understand how hard he's working for us.

WHY IS THAT? HOW COULD THAT BE? ARE HIS SUPPORTERS MORE "SELFISH" than the RIGHT WING REPUGS? Do we DEMAND MORE than the RIGHT WING REPUGS with their LIMBAUGH, CHRISTIAN RIGHT and GLENN BECK NETWORKS AND RADIO?

Are we DEMS who VOTED FOR OBAMA...somehow "Lesser People?"

Does that Mean that Obama only listens to Limbaugh/Beck/RW CHRISTIAN RADIO and the NYT/WAshinton Post/WSJ/POLITCO and the HOARDS of MEDIA WHO "GUIDE HIM?"

What DOESN'T OBAMA READ OR LISTEN TO? Do you think he's ever watched "Democracy Now?" Read "TPM, SALON.COM, Nation, Rolling Stone, Mother Jones, Consortium, Common Dreams, AlterNet, OPEN LEFT,"FIRDOGLAKE,BUZZ FLASH,DAILY KO,"DIGBY?......or the MANY LIBERAL ECONOMISTS...like KRUGMAN, Steiglitz, Galbraith, Whitney, Baker, Yves Smith (Naked Capitalism), "Big Picture Blog," or Minyanville and other Democratic Leaning Financial GURU's?

There are so many other Democratic Blogs out there that the list could go On and On! Does Obama EVER READ THEM?

76. You know...I don't watch him all the time...but when I do he makes sense..
He has some great rants and some that leave some of us "rolling eyes" ...but I've checked him out and he does pass the Dem and even Left...TEST.

I know some DU'ers always try to trash him as some Repug who turned Left Recently. They portray him as a Limbaugh type who got RELIGION so Recently to Dem Party that he's just making money out of it with his New MSNBC GIG.

Other DU'ers who were in Fargo, North Dakota said that ED turned LEFTY WAY BACK...and they listened to him for years before he even got his Gig on AIR AMERICA RADIO.

I've listened to him since his Air America Days. I think he has some influential people in Congress who support him. He showed that on his AAR SHOW... I think he's an excellent counter for Dems against the RW RADIO/FAUX NOISE.

I don't think he deserves the trashing that many DU'ers give him. But, I can understand why we always question anyone who in the "MSM" seems to support Dems. It's so RARE. BUT...EVEN OUR OWN PRESIDENT seems to have a VERY HARD TIME...supporting DEMOCRATS...so what difference does it make if our President or Pundits who say they are Dem...aren't really DEM...if OUR OWN PRESIDENTIAL LEADER...can't come out and SUPPORT DEMS?

Edited on Tue Dec-07-10 10:24 PM by jenmito
Congress should let the tax cuts all expire and try to give them retroactively in Jan. or Feb. They were Jane Hamsher, Adam Green, and Roger Hodge. Ezra Klein said they shouldn't, and O'Donnell agreed.

84. You feel that's a GOOD THING?

YOU SAY:

"Lawrence O'Donnell just destroyed FOUR progressives on his show "

.....

Couldn't you hear that from Glenn Beck, Limbaugh or FAUX NEWS 24/7? You think because Lawrence O'Donnell acts like a DLC/BLUE DOG...it sounds BETTER?

Who pays O'Donnell besides MSNBC in his New Gig?

these progressives are rabid anti-Obama Dems. to the point they make no sense. Lawrence broke down the facts for them and told them how it works in the REAL world, how their position is unrealistic and un-doable.
