1. Kick - I'd like to know, too.
I can only say if I were in that position, my primary concern would be survival.

2. May as well ask any hostage whether their release be negotiated
Obama himself admitted that he did this because he was concerned that the hostage would get hurt.

Well, aren't ALL hostages in danger of being hurt? Isn't that the whole fucking point of taking a hostage in the first place? This seemed like a novel concept to him, that somebody would actually endanger a hostage!

Nice that he has let the WHOLE FUCKING WORLD know that taking a hostage works with Obama. Way to go!

8. I would rather there be an intact safety net of some sort when that happens, YES
But as it is, when I am on the streets, there won't be ANY help anywhere, because it will ALL have been cut because of the huge deficit!

Penny wise and pound foolish, ever hear of that?

3. Getting my last check of emergency unemployment benefits (Tier 1) this week. I talked to
Edited on Tue Dec-07-10 09:24 PM by SCRUBDASHRUB
someone at the employment commission who said despite what will be passed, it's still unclear if I will get any more unemployment insurance. She said each case is different. I need to call the lady next week. I was told to continue to file for benefits as long as the system will allow in the event I will be moved to the next tier and I will be paid retroactively.

I'm personally not happy about millionaires getting a tax cut, but I feel like given the circumstances (a Repuke House coming in January and more Repukes in the Senate next month), nothing would have gotten done; they would have blocked everything, including unemployment insurance. Is it a perfect solution? Absolutely not. I would rather have a longer period of unemployment insurance (1.5 - 2 years, if necessary) and no tax cuts for the rich, but that wasn't going to happen. I think Obama is trying to do the right thing for the unemployed (though I wish he would do something for the 99'ers).

11. I've been doing some freelance work on the side when I can get it. I am fortunate in that
my husband is, thank G-d (at least for now) still working and we have health insurance through his employer. I know there are others who are in worse straits that we are (it's just me and my hubby. We don't have kids to support.).

I am trying to get more freelance work while continuing to look for f/t work. I've been trying to get temp work, but can't even get call backs. I've been put in for contract work, but so far, have gotten no interviews. I may try to start up my own marketing consulting firm. It's pretty bleak.

9. I believe what Sherrod Brown just said.

If the feet had been held to the fire, the GOP would've held their nose and passed the unemployment extension just like the other times. Especially at Christmas. But did anyone call their bluff on that? No. Instead, people like me were taken as hostages, and used to get what the GOP wanted. Nice play, Shakespeare.
