This tax cuts issue will play well for us in 2012
It will probably get us back the house to be honest.

Look at the polls. People hate this. They are smart enough to understand, raise taxes on the rich. Everyone wants to do it. Republicans blocking it.

Basically what the compromise does is, set up a winning argument for Dems in 2012, and starts another stimulus package aimed directly at the middle class right now.

if this frees up a few moderate Pigs to vote for START and end DADT, then actually a lot of Progressive stuff is made possible.

It's the definition of making lemonade from lemons once you get passed the emotion and passion of those rich bastards getting away with more millions.

just remember, we can always use a combination of an improving economy and the Deficit as a means to argument raising their taxes more than just 3% in 2012. If after 2012 we raise it 6% they end up paying that money back anyway.

Also remember how many left-leaning states will have Pig Reps and Senators up for a vote next cycle......which means Progressive Caucus is positioned to be very powerful after 2012, so long as we all don't all slit each others throats before we get there.

1. If it's a winning position then...
it's a winning position now! Two years from now do we want to be better off or worse?

2. Republicans won the house and everyone knew this...
because we have a government elected by a majority of those who vote, not by a majority.

4. Horsespunk ... the complete opposite ...
The Rs (and "liberal" media) will SCREAM about how Obama is waiting until this second term to be the ultimate democrat and 'raise' taxes while excoriating (sp) him for the massive deficts that these cuts will continue to pile up ...

NO positive spin to this ...

NONE, the Rs hold the bully pulpit and will scream about some crape with the media in tow ...

7. And if this backfires and the economy tanks even more, everyone is going to blame who?
Yep, that's right - Obama.

15. THE ONLY thing he could control ...
If the budget/debt ...

The tax cuts do NOTHING economically, first off, it has almost no positive impact at this point from an economic policy standpoint ...

So, most likely, we will continue to have a sluglike recovery that might show show over two years SOME tangible positive signs, but again, the right wing and MSM will not speak of the positives and will move the goalposts to spin it negatively against BO and the evil big spending liberals ...

And, again, either way, they WILL scream LOUDLY about the deficit this will ensure ...

8. And your point?
Our Constitution makes no corrections for the fact that many Americans are clueless.

Their vote is equal to mine, and yours.

9. Well, since you missed the point here it is .......
In two years, when voters go to the polls, the economy will still be in the tank with unemployment still hovering around 10%. It will not be in the tank in spite of these tax cuts, but instead will be in the tank because of these tax cuts.

The majority of Americans support these tax cuts now, but they will be hating them by the time of the next election.

16. The tax cuts didn't cause the recession.
The economy tanked thanks to derivative trading.

Companies are currently hoarding cash, because for many of them, their cash position was weak and that put that them at risk when the banks would not loan money.

You can see this same behavior with most American people, reducing their on personal debt.

The tax cuts will raise the deficit, but they will not tank the economy.

17. Yes, you are correct as to why the economy tanked the first time, but these tax
cuts are not going to do anything to help us dig our way out.

No one can answer the question as to how this bill is going to get us out of our current hole. It's a temporary band-aid solution to a long term problem.

18. Doing nothing would have had no effect .... except hurt Obama and the Dems politically.
Doing nothing certainly has zero stimulative effect.

Economists have said that doing nothing probably causes the economy to contract because the middle class will have less money to spend. Sure, the deficit might improve some, but the contraction in the economy will decrease overall tax revenues. The compromise extends the middle class cuts, and a number of elements from the stimulus which did stop the fall and start the slow recovery.

I'd rather a slow recovery than a contraction.

With a GOP House, you can expect no stimulative spending for the next 2 years. They will be doing whatever they can to stop Obama, period. They would love to tank the economy.

19. Do nothing would have had no effect, but this could quite possibly have a
long term negative effect. This is Obama's economic version of NAFTA. NAFTA, in the short term, had economic benefits. But in the long term NAFTA came back to bite us in the ass.

12. You base your whole premise on the economy improving.
Given the present situation, how is this economy going to improve?
I see no jobs programs on the horizon and under the tax deal, the Oligarchs still don't have any incentive to create any jobs.

Where is this magical recovery going to come from?

Do they have unicorns there too?

14. I'd say your DEAD WRONG
and here's why. The economy will show signs of improvement and the republicans will point to the tax cuts. They will say we need to make the cuts permanent and the Democratic party is standing in the way. And we all know the rightwings bases are nothing more than sheep and they will suck this up.

Edited on Thu Dec-23-10 03:01 AM by avaistheone1
And as a result the tax cuts will wind up being permanent. The wall to Social Security will be broken down with cuts to Social Security program due to the payroll tax being paid out of the general fund.

So I unrecommend.
