Some of those screaming foul because President Obama stood up for himself |
|
remind me of the kids on the block who laugh and laugh at their friend who keeps getting picked on by the neighborhood bully. The bully taunts him while his buddies watch, not lifting a finger to help him. Instead, they crack on him for getting taunted. They make fun of him, call him a weakling, a sissy, a punk and continually mock him with taunts of "you gonna take that?" "Why are you letting him play you like that?" "Damn, you're sorry!" and on and on.
Then one day the little boy has enough. The next time his friends open their mouths, the little boy whips around and closes them. And his friends run back to their houses, sniffling, snorting and crying, screaming in a voice about three octaves higher than their "You're a sorry little punk" voice:
"MOMMMEEEEEEEE!!! BARRY HIT ME!!!!!"

3. That's it in a nutshell. |
|
Never mind the misperception that he's being more cordial and civil to the Republicans because he respects them more or he's one of them or whatever the hell excuse is made up to bolster the claim that Obama hates Progressives.
People are willfully ignoring the fact that he has to deal with Congress to get things done, and Congress, despite wishing it wasn't, IS made up of a lot of Republicans and Blue Dogs. And there will be more Republicans come January.
But this putative untapped well of grassroots strength and power is having a big collective cry that they were yelled at by that mean President and he'd better apologize or else!

4. I didn't vote for him to stand up for himself, or republicans. |
|
I voted for him to stand up for Democratic values. He can't do that he is of no use to me.

10. Democratic values: Economic Justice, right? So, at whose expense? |
|
Edited on Wed Dec-08-10 05:24 PM by patrice
I understand and value the point that NONE of the Tax Cuts should be extended. That IS in fact my preferred position, as it seems the most Just as long as it is also coupled with UI and THAT WAS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN, because Democrats wouldn't take the political hit on it. So he decided on Economic Justice for those who are getting the least out of our economy. I'm NOT happy about his solution, but I DO want us to be honest about what happened.
You should read some of the vicious stuff posted in comments over at HuffPo regarding UI and the Un-Employed. THEY are the under-dog in this situation and Democrats defend those who are disadvantaged by the system, whether the Senate had the courage to do that or not. If they HAD done it, there would have been less leverage for the Republicans in this tax deal. Makes you wonder why they didn't do it, doesn't it?

home at Christmas, not passing an extension, and faced THEIR unemployed constituents and not had their asses reamed, I have a bridge for sale. It would have passed. It was all posturing by the republicans. They do that time after time.

16. As far as I am concerned, it was all |
|
for political cover. They WANT the tax breaks, it is to their benefit. They want SS cut and privatized. It's all about the money. They don't have enough, their backers don't have enough. They will never have enough. Greedy fucking pigs. One thing I have learned about the pukes, they will trash talk unemployment insurance, welfare, SS, but they are the first ones there with their little paws out.

5. The Senate was trying to pass the buck re Un-Employment benefits, because they are AFRAID |
|
to look like (Oh! the horror!!!) SOCIALISTS by providing for those who are not working, because our economic system failed them by the way.
Anyway, the Senate was stalling because they didn't want to take the political hit of extending Un-Employment Benefits AGAIN, and the President called their shit on that and the price (which the House telegraphed price acceptability last week with their vote demonstrating that the HOUSE won't take a hit on raising taxes on the Middle Class) as I was saying, the price for extension of Un-Employment Benefits was temporary extension of ALL of the tax cuts.
