10. Unemployed republicans can and do put the heat on their |
|
elected officials too. Don't think for one minute they aren't getting calls telling them "Hey asshole we need our unemployment." My unemployed BIL has been calling and raging at his in Utah. If they don't want to give in, then their constituents can throw their sorry asses out. Might be a good thing. Sorry I have seen it before. It's all posturing. It seems to be a verbal bone they throw out there.

read him letters repeatedly from people in his own state. He sat up there like a petulant ass, and continued blocking the extension.
The only reason they could not follow through.... they did not own the House.

They were not his problem. They deserved it.
Losing their jobs were their fault, regardless of who they voted for in his estimation

26. Well you misunderstand, |
|
I made the point that if they want to vote for Rand Paul, that's their decision, they should have listened to him and where he stood on those issues when he campaigned. As for Bunning if he thinks losing their jobs was their fault, even if they they voted for him, well I hope they kicked his ass out, but sounds like he retired so I doubt that they did. If he blocks unemployment, I have sympathy for his constituents but you get what you vote for. I voted for Bennet here in CO. he was nasty when I called on the tax breaks, I told him I wouldn't vote for his sorry ass again and he might remember how close this last race was. I got what I voted for but I learned my lesson. I won't do that again.

5. Of course people come first, but an unsustainable deficit will cause harm to the well being |
|
of the people. If our whole financial system goes under, people will suffer. So yes people are most important and that is why the deficit needs to be addressed. At the rate we are going, soon the deficit will be greater than this country's GNP. At that point, we won't be able to pay back the Chinese and others and our whole system will come down like a house of cards.

Supply side caused this whole mess. Saying more Bush is the cure is buying into failed GOP supply side Reaganomics.
We are almost at the tipping point on the national debt, once we reach that point America become a third world country.

Yes, Nancy Pelosi & the Democratic's!
The deficit raising, unpaid for, no jobs producing, unfair 10 year tax cuts for the wealthiest 2% is obscene and should be allowed to EXPIRE!
Republican have NEVER cared about raising the deficit only when the Dems are in office do they scream about it - republicans love to spend and raise the deficit on themselves, the rich corporations and wars for corporate profits. But NEVER for the workers middle-class or small business!!
Many I know on unemployment feel the same way and would rather see the Democrats fight for a better deal than the one Obama gave the greedy, selfish, cold-hearted lying hateful regressive republicans!
Thank you Dems!

11. Just for the sake of argument: |
|
The tax cuts pass.
The UI doesn't cover the 99ers BTW. They can go fuck themselves as far as this deal goes. But that's okay with you, yes?
There will always be unemployed and newly unemployed every year.
Two years down the road we need more UI funds and the pubs won't budge until we give up more of the tax base. More tax cuts for "all".
Fine. We give in.
Where does it stop? When there is no more blood to squeeze from this stone called america? How many sweet deals can we cut. Your opinion please. Will the spigot never run dry? What if our creditors figure they don't want to loan us money any more? That we're a bad risk?
When we have to privatize SS, and every other social service? But wait... there's no money in providing for the poor so. Wait. There's more... let's open the gas ovens for the poor and unemployed 99ers and infirm to suicide themselves. Maybe this is their end game. No social services.
Where do you draw the line? Where does common sense figure into this?

Deficits should never be acceptable. We should build a surplus when times are good, so that surplus can be used when times are bad.

27. No one will ever pay off the deficit |
|
it will be monetized away. The kids and grandkids are perfectly safe and always were.
It is like you spending more than you earn, but, you have a printing press to make more if you need it. However it is slightly different, because they don't even have to run the printing press anymore, it is all done with a keyboard and a mouse. They could do it all tomorrow, but that would upset the wealthy and the currency markets, so they will do it a little at a time over a decade or two.
The notion that the deficit at current levels is actually a problem, given the state of the economy and near deflation, is republican propoganda issued to prevent us from taxing the rich for social benefits. Do yourself a favor and work to stop believing it.

22. They're not mutually exclusive. |

Look at all the loopholes we can close, and all the cuts that could be made for things with absolutely no value to society (like half the Defense budget).
Being progressive is also practical and makes good economic sense, IMO.

At some point the deficit will swallow us all - and any attempt to reduce the deficit hurts SOME person.
Our economy supports us all, like the earth does and you can't put off its maintenance forever.
