Wouldn't a Senate "stand alone"' DADT repeal bill then have to go back to the House? |
|
The House passed repeal as an amendment to the Defense Authorization bill, not as a stand alone.
Is it possible to reconcile an amendment in one chamber with an actual bill in another?
I'm not familiar enough with Congressional procedure to knwo, but it would seem, at first glance, that any stand alone bill would then have to return back to the House for another vote.

2. Yes. The defense authorization bill would have had to go back to the House anyway. |
|
But that shouldn't be a problem; there was a comfortable majority for passing it last time, and the House has less opportunity for the sort of procedural bullshit that the Senate Republicans keep pulling.

6. I think that is much more of a problem in the Senate than in the House. |
|
The House could even pass it first while the Senate wrangles. It wouldn't be the first time...

3. I wondered about that. Hasn't the House adjourned for the year? |

7. Pelosi should pass a stand-alone bill and send it directly to the Senate to save some time |
|
She consistently delivers on behalf of all that is good in America. Maybe she will step up once again.

8. There are a couple different procedural options, as I understand it. |
|
One has the House going first then sending the legislation over to the Senate as a 'message'. Check out Greg Sargent's latest for details - http://voices.washingtonpost.com/plum-line/
