How sad it is that we seem to be legitimizing Bush's presidency
Here we are, we're still fighting his silly wars instead of going all out for peace through diplomacy.

Here we are, we're on the verge of extending Bush's ridiculous tax handouts for the richest people in the country.

Here we are, we are doing our fair share to make George W Bush look like a fucking genius. How incredibly sad is that.

Who would have ever thought?

1. who is this 'we' you speak of?
If you mean Obama and his die hard apologists, you're right. But the Democratic base is not part of this 'we'.

4. "We", in a context such as this, usually means Democratic Party in general, not you personally
but I think you already knew that.

2. "We're" not - our "leaders" are. It's way more than sad...
It's a total sellout.

3. No. Bush's tax cuts are the equivalent of raiding the rainy day fund.
Obama's tax cuts are like using the rainy day fund when its freaking storming and we are in danger of being swept away.

16. and running in the storm to the corner store to buy scratch offs with the rainy day fund
Or more accurately playing the hoist and claw game until he gets the Grand Prize watch out and trades it for magic beans or whatever the fuck is supposed to make this failed nonsense stimulate the economy.

The bulk of this is going to go the top 20% or so. Certainly the impact for the bottom 60% is negligible, a few bucks a week.

The only real chunk is for unemployment which has jack apple shit to do with taxes and is being used to force a lot of counter productive bullshit through which will steal from the future to prop up the haves today.

This is akin to taking out a mortgage but funneling the money into a coke habit and justifying blowing a couple hundred grand because you bought groceries and a couple of outfits.

This is not investment.

17. We can't talk investment as stimulus anymore. We lost the votes.
If the left really did stay away from the polls then this is the result we have to live with.

23. I didn't stay home and in fact volunteered. I'm not accepting shit.
Then again, I had an important Mayor's race, Randroid to oppose, and an actual Democrat to work for in the House.

I don't think many liberals stayed home, who dropped off were the Obama wave voters.

If liberals had stayed home around these parts then we'd have different local results. This was not a national election but a lot of local contests that included national positions of Representative and Senate.

2008 was the most votes ever, who has watched these cycles did not expect a similar turn out.

There is no stimulus without investment. We're paying the grocery bill and letting the house not go.

7. Thank you. I hate Bush so much that it sickens me to see our Democratic leaders allowing
Bush's policies to define our own. It disgusts me to see Bush's legacy live on within our own agenda.

6. the worst holdover from the Bush "Presidency" is the
hateful- crude- bulling- 'swagger' attitude that has permeated our entire society since 2001.

The things you list are important- but when we take on the worst aspects of our opposition, we have lost what really counts imo.

It's everywhere. And it's deadly.

8. Excellent point, and what you said should be of great concern to us all.
Somewhere along the way we have gotten off the trail and are having trouble finding it again.

...disagree with you. In some sense we are still living the Bush legacy...or should I say that the Bush legacy continues.

10. I know most of you like to forget....
What Obama said during the 2008 campaign and even on election night that change will be hard, have bumps in the road and TAKE ALOT of time, maybe even 2 terms he said. If obama told us that change will take 2 years, then I would be mad at him like the rest of you are. But don't hold him to something that he did not say....not fair.

11. Dennis, this isn't just about Obama. It's about any Democrats who opt to prolong Bush's misery
instead of standing up to it. They should be ashamed for letting us down, especially when they all know how much we despised what Bush did for the rich.

13. Bush did so much damage to the USA....
That no matter who was the next president and even if they had good faith intentions, would not be able to complete the change in just 2-4 years....as Obama said in 2008, change takes time...,he was right then and he's right now....he never promised change in just 2 years. Libers tend not to have patience and if they don't get what they want yesterday, they start yelling from the rooftops.

15. I agree he didnt promise change in 2 yrs, but continuing important apects of Bush's agenda is NOT
the way we expected our leaders to go about making change, nor is it anything close to the kind of change we were expecting from them.

22. It isn't all the things he hasn't gotten to that have caused us such grief
It's the things he has gotten to, many of those things, are detrimental to the average American and advantageous to those on Wall Street. What is he going to do in the next six years? I don't think we can take much more.
