How will our position improve by 2012 on the tax cut debate? |
|
Do you expect our delegation in Congress and our president to better prepare for the fight this time? Do you expect the GOP will not hold essential nonpartisan policy hostage? What will make it easier to "raise" taxes in the future, as compared to the present time?

1. Because Obama said he'll fight for it next time |
|
And when he fights... well, look out Buster!
The Republicans won't know what hit 'em! I mean that! They'll have no idea that something even hit them! They're so fucked!

14. The Bush/Obama tax cuts will be an issue. |
|
How Obama will run for them and against at the same time will be some spin to see.

4. If he makes tax cuts for the wealthy the main election issue I think the gop will be in trouble. See |
|
they can't now stop talking about the deficit now that Rand Paul and others have been elected.

5. If Obama says no to them in '12 they'll become a political weapon that the repigs will run on. |
|
If he says yes then they'll say he's increased the deficit. It's a no win to kick this down the road IMO.

6. "improve by 2012"? Hard to say. |
|
But if the GOP captures the White House that year, you can't BEGIN to imagine just how bad things will get, and for a looongtime to come; perhaps beyond recovery!
Hold Obama's feet to the fire; that's what DU doe's best. But if he's primaried out in 2012, that wil result in a GOP victory later in that year. GUARANTEED! Is that what you guys all want?

8. What I want is a President who will stand up now and say no to these tax cuts. If he doesn't then . |
|
then your alternative statement about "beyond recovery" becomes a soon to be realized reality. It will not matter who holds power if these tax cuts pass - either way we as a nation will be fucked.

9. As`"morally relativist" as it may come across to you, |
|
what I want is a Democratic President who will get ELECTED in 2012! No guarantees, I know, but from then onward, I have hopes that all the evils will be undone. Yes, they started with Reagan, and with a little help from Clinton.

10. But here's the problem, we have a Democrat as president now. He can do the right thing now ......... |
|
instead of hoping he wins re-election, which there is a good chance that he may not, instead of kicking the can down the down the road.
Let's face it, this road is getting pretty long and the can has many more dents in it now.

11. I think we're BOTH operating from incomplete information. |
|
But I'll stick with my original posting. Could Obama have played his cards better? Possibly, but even before last month, his so-caled "Bully Pulpit" was very limited. With a Lame Duck House? Even more so. I believe he's buying time by yielding ground, with 2012 firmly in mind. That's sometimes a sound strategy, and sometimes the ONLY workable one!
But I think we can both agree on this: A REPUBLICAN WIN IN 2012, WILL BE A LONG TIME DISASTER!

15. I somewhat agree. I differ in that I believe that if this bill is passed it will be a long term |

disaster no matter who is the president.

12. Everything I've ready says the WH insisted on the '12 end date... |
|
... as opposed to it ending in '13 when the GOP wanted (which would have been safer politically for the President.)
So they apparently WANT to have that fight. If anyone wants to doubt Barack Obama's ability to convince the American people of a political argument during a Presidential election against the GOP, that's on them.
