Steve King (R) -IA "The Unemployed Don't Want To Work"
He said the Congress' Small Business Committee had a hearing and that six of eight small businesses at the hearing were having trouble filling positions. I would like to know what the requirements are for these positions. I would like to know if they pay a living wage; a living wage is just that, a wage that you can live one.

The real reason the Repugnicants oppose unemployment insurance is because it's acts as a floor on wages. If the unemployed have a reasonable amount of time there is at least the possibility of them finding a job as good the job that was taken away. I don't like the term "losing your job." If you were meeting the requirements of your job and you were let go because of the crappy economy it was taken away. Losing something requires at least a modicum of responsibility on your part as I lost my cell phone, keys, wallet, fill in the blank...

Without unemployment insurance the unemployed would have to take the first crappy job they could find, and there aren't even a lot of them. This would just further depress wages.

17. Hell, I would gladly move cross country for one.
In a heartbeat. Shoot, I applied for positions that were located as far as the Aleutian Islands, for chrissakes. I would love to know where all these jobs he speaks of are located. I would be happy to apply for one. Of course, they'll be like everyone else who has told me I don't have the right qualifications. Or, I'm too old, too educated...

Like Hobbit709, I would also get banned if I said what I would really like to say to this asshole.

4. More projection on their part
Just because 'Pugs are so lazy and unskilled they'd be happy (they think) on unemployment, they presume the rest of us are that way.

6. Depressing wages is what it is all about. American Worker has
to be made Competitive with the the Third World.

High Wage jobs means the products produced are too
expensive for poorer countries to afford to buy.

When they tell you China is getting a middle class
Korea has a middle class. Find out what is a middle
class wage in those countries. How many people are
really in the middle class.

9. Nice having a job where you get to vote for your own pay raises, health and retirement benefits.
No reason congress can't live on minimum wage, and if you are a republican below minimum wage because you would like to eliminate it.

11. Then those small businesses are paying shit for wages.
Pretty simple, really, and I'm tired of hearing about all those jobs that are going begging for workers.

Crap for pay, little or no benefits, no chance for advancement in a dead-end low or no-skilled job that pays marginally over the minimum wage, and they expect the world to beat their doors down?

22. Because we now know businesses won't hire the unemployed!
They can't find workers because their HR people have been instructed to overlook the unemployed. Also, the employed are so overworked they don't have time to look for alternative jobs. Although I have been working full time by patching together part-time work at several colleges at a lower salary than any other time in my adult life-with no retirement or health benefits, I've never applied for a full-time job with less than 25 other "qualified' applicants. my wife is tired of seeing me alternate between being spitting mad and dejected...
