Say what you will, but I got a kid graduating college this month - |
|
and thanks to President Obama, he has health insurance under my husband's policy for the next two years while he's looking for work. Sure, I would have preferred single payer, but until more people see the light, single payer isn't on the table.

1. I have two kids in college as well and am also thankful for President Obama's HCR accomplishment. |
|
around here, you'd think the President was the worst thing to happen to us since 9/11. So sad that that some are so quick to anger that they are unable to see his accomplishments.

3. Well, I tend to look a little past my own situation and focus on |
|
what is best for the country. I will continue to get a big tax cut under Obama's capitulation and I already have health insurance for me and my family. By your logic I should vote republican. However, I do recognize how disastrous these policies are and vote on how bad they are going to make the country that my kids and grandkids will have to live in. That is the problem, republicans win because people vote for their best interest (rich) and they also pick up all of the votes of the ignorant middle class that believe their station in life will be improved.
In your situation, they are picking up the support of the scared that are unwilling to make a little sacrifice or take a risk in order to improve the country.
You are just feeding their strategy. Let me know when it gets back on the table. It won't happen for another 10 years or so.

4. Maybe his problem is that he's not very good at selling what he actually did accomplish. |
|
He certainly failed to put it into words that we little people could understand.

No matter how much Obama fought for single payer, it would have never passed congress.
Something is definitely better than nothing.

7. did you hear about the judge who said the law was unconstitutional today? |
|
Don't be jumping for joy just yet. for the record, I have a kid with pre-existing conditions who needs that extra coverage - but now it's being attacked.

10. the mandated insurance part, which made the program viable |
|
So now that THAT has been undermined, we're looking at a full fledge attack to repeal the whole thing in the new Congress. I know that is what they want to do -- my frigging Congresscritter is helping lead the damned charge.

19. Reminds me of an old joke. |
|
For her son's birthday, the mother of a teenager bought him 2 sweaters.
While he was sleeping, she laid each at the foot of his bed.
When he awoke, the son saw the sweaters, grabbed one and put it on, Then he went down to breakfast expecting his mother to be pleased.
When he entered the room, his mother looked at him and made a sour face ... and then she asked ..
"What, you didn't like the other sweater??"
Obama gets some concession ... but form some, its ALWAYS THE WRONG ONE!!!

20. Reminds me of the old story about 100 people drowning after their ship capsized |

A lifeboat came for 10 of them, and the rest of them failed to stand up and cheer.

21. So, you'd rather either all or none get saved. |
|
Black and white thinking, all or none, never go for what is possible, go for broke or not at all?
Bet it all and lose, or play the odds and win, little by little.

23. Cheers for the people who are saved, but not those who are left behind |
|
Particularly since (given that we already spend twice as much for health care than any other developed nation) that we didn't have to leave anyone behind.

22. If you can't save them all, save none. Good plan you have there. |
|
Your approach can be useful in many "moral dilemma" situations.
Skip analysis ... if we can't save everyone ... let all die.
It is an argument one can make.

24. What portion of the entire economy is tied up in health care, 7%? |
|
Edited on Tue Dec-14-10 11:34 AM by hedgehog
Just a wild ass guess, but throwing millions of insurance company employees out of work to convert to single payer overnight probably isn't a good idea. Working toward single payer step by step is the way to go. I haven't heard Obama say he is satisfied and resting on his laurels, the man is still working on the problem!
Meanwhile, my son can get his asthma treated!

25. This is good news and directly attributable to Obama |
|
There is more work to be done and maybe some day all Americans will have 100% health coverage without having to buy insurance. I'd prefer my tax dollars go to socialized programs than to wars any day.
