Let's Kill the Hostages & Commit Suicide! |
|
That's the plan concocted by the people who want to subvert Obama's compromise and now talk about a 2012 Democratic challenge to Obama.
Without the compromise, unemployment benefits will be cut for millions. Those are the hostages Obama is saving.
With a Democratic challenge to Obama in 2012, say hello to President Romney and VP Palin. That would be suicide for the Democratic Party.
Moral of the story: Don't kill the hostages, and don't commit suicide.

Let's give them reason to take more hostages and let's commit suicide by driving up the deficit and attacking Social Security.

2. Romney won't be the 2012 nominee |
|
He's pro-gun-control, and you know the Tea Party isn't going to sit still for that.

11. Don't write Romney off. |
|
His pro-gun control stance means nothing. Republicans have proven they WILL accept a pro-gun control candidate if he's electable otherwise, as some of the 2010 races proved as some pro-gun Democrats were replaced by Republicans with worse records.
Romney's still the strongest challenger to Obama right now, his only real fear is evangelicals boycotting him because he's a Mormon. Of course they won't vote for him in the primaries, but if he becomes the nominee, I have no doubt Republicans will close ranks behind him.

12. Romney cannot become the nominee |
|
without the fundies, they make up way too much of the Rethug base. If he could, he would have won in both Iowa and New Hampshire in 2008, and in those places, he didn't even get close.
The fundies don't want to hand a talking point to the Mormon missionaries now trying to fleece their flocks. Romney's dead meat in the Repuke party, though he'd stand a chance of being elected in the general if he mounted a third party candidacy.

7. Seriously, why can't the Democrats make a lot of hay, grab a lot of media attention... |
|
And basically force the Republicans to concede by calling out their cruelty against Americans!? I mean, it's the same thing that Republicans would have done "If you don't support the tax cut you would be raising taxes on struggling Americans!"

15. Media won't allow it. |
|
1) On Sunday night, Boehner does an interview and claims he's against compromise. He also says that Obama needs to respect the will of the people who voted in 2010. Not one follow up question is asked as to why he and the GOP obstructed Obama and the Dems after the 2006 and 2008 elections. Nothing.
2) On Monday afternoon, Andrea Mitchell on MSNBC shows the Boehner clip and uses it to demonstrate the neither the GOP nor the President have been willing to compromise on anything. She then spends the next 10 minutes letting a GOP representative describe how for 2 years, Obama was pushing far left legislation, and was unwilling to compromise with the GOP. Mitchell does not ask a single meaningful follow-up.
3) Also Monday afternoon, Chris Jansing comes on and points out that if the tax cuts expire, Obama will have effectively broken his promise to not raise taxes on those making under $250,000 ... which is about 95% of the country.
The GOP will not be blamed. The media will make sure that the public knows that "the democrats, who love to raise your taxes, and who hold the majority, just raised taxes again."
That narrative has already started on MSNBC, the so-called liberal media.

9. Instead of killing the hostage takers, he's invited them to take even more |
|
Edited on Mon Dec-13-10 10:00 PM by rocktivity
The unemployed will be hostages again a year from now, along with Social Security recipients because they'll be less revenue for benefits. And we'll end up with the exact same result.

10. No. Let's torture them for two years before we kill them. |
|
Then we can give the torturers a big old bonus of $700 billion.

13. There's also the possibility |
|
that the Repigs will not want to totally abandon the unemployed once they have effective control of the Congress in January. No, they won't go for thirteen months, but they might go for six or seven months at a time, paid for by cuts in other spending.
Gutting Social Security and giving some freebies to the heirs of rich people just isn't worth it to me.
