Holbrooke's Last Words: End Afghanistan War
(Newser) – Richard Holbrooke's dying wish was for an end to the war in Afghanistan, family members say. As he was heading into surgery in a Washington hospital, the late American special envoy for Afghanistan and Pakistan told his Pakistani surgeon, "You've got to stop this war in Afghanistan," relatives tell the Washington Post. The 69-year-old diplomat died of complications from a 21-hour operation to repair a torn aorta.

1. I pray Obama takes heed. This is the one thing I have most
upset with him about. I know he campaigned on the importance of Afghanistan but I was hoping he'd see the futility of this escapade once he took office.

3. As I heard this on the radio this AM, my thoughts were that maybe Obama would listen
The numbers who have lost their lives and the dollars we have spent.

I remember reading somewhere several years ago that Afghanistan has bankrupted every invader since the time of Genghis Khan. I can't find that statistic to post here so can't verify it but we do know that the Soviet Union broke up shortly after giving up the fight in Afghanistan. But here is an interesting little piece of history on Afghanistan: http://journalism.berkeley.edu/projects/arccrisis/afghan-aftimeline.html

Shows all the nations that have tried to invade and failed.
