"Sen. Sherrod Brown leans toward supporting tax cut deal."
Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio) said that he's leaning toward voting for the tax-cut package after voting Monday against ending debate. "I voted against cloture because I wanted to continue to try to find a way to send a message to the House that there are allies here, in addition to the conversations there," Brown said. The senator, who is up for reelection in 2012, added that he changed his mind after speaking with his minister and reading letters from constituents who are struggling amid the economic downturn.

2. As somebody said - the fix is in. Oh well -
Reagan is smiling in Hell - and that's all that really counts
In modern politics.

4. I hate to hear that Brown is consulting with his witch doctor. I thought
he was either smarter than that or more honest than to politic on his religious position. For me, another hero bites the dust. Please tell me what in the Hell would a minister know about the effects of huge financial bills on the American people?

6. Gotta love us Dems and our tolerance....
... anyway, I suspect Brown's minister isn't any LESS knowledgeable than your average DU regular. ;)

12. I'm aware of Carter's religious affiliations. I'm also aware that he
has a PhD in nuclear physics and is one of the brainiest Presidents in History. I pay attention to everything he says. I never recall that he based any serious political decision by consulting with his minister.

I have been a great admire of Sherrod Brown. He has worked hard for America's cause. But, for him to duck out of the hard decision on the Tax Compromise citing consultation with his minister was just too much for me to take. It makes be fearful that he is welshing out on the courageous stand by playing the God card.

If there is one thing that America needs no more of, it consultations with ministers. They already have far greater influence over politics then they deserved, based upon the knowledge of complicated political processes.

9. Why would he consult with a DU poster? Maybe he should consult
with someone who is an expert on economics.

17. I struggled with the word "minister" as well. It sounded like a UK term, a political position.
For example, if he had communicated with a Minister of Finance, that would have made sense....

He's on Parker/Spitzer *right now* (as I type this), he voted no on principle.

25. +1
Brown did not consult his freaking minister about this any more than Obama's position on gay marriage has anything to do with his "Christian faith." :puke:

20. If he voted against it, Ohioans would have killed him at the ballot box.
Sherrod Brown is not politically naive, there are plenty of people hurting in this state.
