Here's my Deal for Lieberman..... |
|
Cut him in half, give one half to the Republicans, and dump the other half in the nearest White Elephant!
Yes, I'm quite fed up with Sen. Benedict Droopy Dog Arnold Lieberman.

2. I'm not a Senator so I don't know just what is REAL IMPORTANT |
|
to him. I know he really wants to keep his chairmanship, and he wants to please all those ins. cos. from Ct. The Dems could strip him of his chairmanship, but what else? What else would match with all that $$?

6. He has to please those insurance companies. |

They've owned him for decades. That's what makes this a difficult situation. As to your question, I have no idea.

7. speaking of which, does anybody know which way the winds are blowing in Connecticut these days? |
|
I remember him constantly emphasizing the fact that he would be a Democrat in everything except the name when he was running in 2006. Clearly that hasn't been the case, and it's less than 2 years until he's up for reelection.

9. I don't know how things are in Ct. but there's nothing to |

force the Pubs to run a candidate against him. If his only opponent is a Dem, would or COULD the Dem win?

he'll have a lot less financial backing than he did previously.

24. his numbers are in the toilet |
|
he would not get reelected.
unfortunately he fooled enough democrats with his "I'm really a liberal" shtick in 2006, and got the Rs to abandon their candidate, to get reelected. Supporting McCain/Palin was basically fatal for him.
I don't think he's going to run again, or if he does, it will be as a Republican.

The supreme irony is that Israel has universal health care that puts the American system to shame and LGBTs serve openly in the military and police.

12. I think we should wait before saying anything critical, until we see what the WH has to say. |

After all, Lieberman might well just be a rook in Obama's chess game... while we're all thinking in terms of checkers.
** Edited to fix "crook" to "rook". Freudian slip, I suppose. **

Repeat what I just said again, and again, and again and again.
I've said my piece about Lieberman, now it is on with coming up with solutions for the problem that he presents.
That's us playing chess, instead of playing a game of "sorry" or "I told you so".

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=433&topic_id=56598&mesg_id=56598Looks like a deal was cut... just as (denied) rumors of Rahm contacting Reid suggested one might be in the offing. The game is now afoot. (Staunton Gambit, 124 moves)

20. I can assure you that that is not the game I am playing. |
|
And I have, as yet, made no premature moves.
Looking at the situation through the prism of the "chess" metaphor, especially in light of the Rahm v. Gibbs disagreement (I assume it was Gibbs denying that rumor)... it would appear that there is some misdirection being employed. Strategy, if you will.
As it appears that Reid has done Rahm's rumored bidding... it is obvious that we now have some insight into the WH plan... or do we? Did the WH want Reid to fold like a cheap Democratic suit (presumably so that it can be fixed in the Merger process)? Or, did the WH really prefer to remain aloof from the process, so that the pressure they bring to bear at the end of the process will be that much more... surprising?
It's like watching tv, I'm so excited. Can the WH continue to take advantage of collapsible Democratic suits to pass history making legislation? After all this time trying to appear to be a conciliator, will Obama step out to face the criticism by pressing for a radical change in the piece of shit health care bills during the merger process? Will Emannuel let him? Or... was Health Care Reform all really just a distraction, while the real work was being done on Climate Change?
I obviously don't know anything. I'm just a citizen, and no one trusts citizens with any real information. So, I will now sit patiently and reverently while awaiting the next move.
(rook to H7?...)

They're the ones who continue to allow Lieberman to continue on this power trip of his. Remember when Lamont ran against Lieberman? Many, many current DEMS, and DEMS in high places supported Lieberman. The DEMS also had a chance to strip Lieberman of his powers and they didn't.
