I am absolutely PROUD of those for and against the Obama tax deal here on DU
I have my opinion on this ridiculous trauma that we are faced with because we essentially have a broken governing system where super-majorities have to occur because the Party of No would filibuster anything that has less than 60 votes.

I also understand the other opinions on this despite my continuing level of smashmouth hyperbole on this issue.

For that, I apologize. Seriously.

What I do like about our dialog, while messy and even a tad overburned on many levels, is that we are not lockstepping like the Republicans when it comes to issues.

A case in point is how the so-called Tea Party activists and their elected people have been completely SILENT on this tax issue. More spending, more big government, more blah blah blah... they have been told they need to shitass shut up or the big money will silence them.

We, as Democrats, can yell at each other with our opinions and try to clarify the differences between ourselves. That alone is something to be proud of.

I know this really means nothing in regard to what is happening now and in the next days, weeks, months and years for most people. I just think it's the band I'd rather be in... the commune I'd grow crops for... the neighborhood I'd shovel their sidewalks for for free...

Carry on.

3. When OPs offering facts have zero recs.......
sorry, but the majority has decided that they don't need no stinking facts.

I, for one, do not herald those who dishonestly have twisted the facts
in this debates....from some stating that Obama "WANTED" to give Rich a tax cut,
to "He's coming after your Social Security!" to "Obama is a Republican" name calling, to the outright lies.

But go ahead and celebrate......

8. Duly noted
I agree with you on what you've tried to illustrate but am also in a mood to consider that those who would be against what is happening also mean well in their view as well.

We can do that.

We're not Republicans. We are Democrats or at least many of us are Progressives that face the follies that are presented to us with fervor.

Hopefully (and I guilty of this), we can try to argue our opinions without hyperbolic name-calling and bumper sticker accusations.

We're actually all smarter than that and would agree with 96% of political opinions if we were all gathered together in a big room somewhere where I cook the Eggplant Parmesan and have gallons of home brew while we dance to open mic songs by those that want to sing their songs.

OK, that last part is my fantasy...

13. I think the threads you and others posted on the impact of the deal failing were excellent
Recced or wrecked, those threads are still valuable.

6. Agreed. And in my view, at the end of the day, we have to find a way
to unite and move forward. Organize around common principles that we can reach agreement on and do the work.

Lamenting and crying on a message board is unproductive. Let's organize and act. I love DU, but would like to see more action on the ground.

We want more progressives? Help support them at the local levels.

15. Recommended.
I have been slightly supportive of the tax situation because of my concerns for the unemployed, but I don't think anyone who has read my posts over the last two years would consider me be to be always pro-President Obama.

16. Who knows, maybe the Teabaggers in Congress will unite us again
A whole bunch of cement brained people have been elected this year and I'm hoping DUers can be counted on to fill in the dearth of intelligence we're going to have. The bar just keeps getting lower and lower.

21. In the current Congress -- not many.
Most of the teabaggers were elected for the new Congress. The old Congress is dealing with the tax bill. What is your point?

The GOP votes for their corporate masters. Palin and Limbaugh are just loudspeakers, not leaders.

Even though divisions in the Democrats have come to the forefront, this bill seems to be splintering Republicans as well.
