What say we just put this cobbled-together, lame and embarrassingly inadequate "Health Care" bill |
|
(I can't bring myself to call it "reform") out of its misery?
If the Congressional Democrats can't summon the political will to tell the nation that the Republicans and their corporate masters have won and that no true health care reform is possible at this time with this Congress, then President Obama should announce that he will veto any version now being considered as inadequate and obviously subservient to Big Insurance and Big Pharma.
To those who say "People will die!", I say that people will die if the Insurance Industry handjob now being considered is passed in place of REAL health care reform.
Cut the bullshit, people!
Lead, follow or get the hell out of the way, but don't PRETEND to lead.

1. I'd suffice with some of the post-passage speeches |
|
to say that we didn't go as far as we could have. As long as they don't try to sugarcoat it, they'll at least have integrity.
However, that isn't likely to happen.

2. I suspect if a Senate bill passes it will be rewritten in conference. |

5. I think there will only be token changes in conference |
|
We are going to get a health care bill, and yes there will be some good things in it, but we are not going to be getting transformative change.
I guess a flawed bill is better politics than no bill (1993-94), but so much more could have been done.

6. The House Progressive Caucus is pushing back hard. |

Reconciliation appears to be the only way around Lieberman.
I prefer the Medicare buy-in which can be expanded as opposed to the anemic version of the PO on the table.

3. We are way past the opportunit to do that. |

If Obama vetoed this bill, that would be the end of the whole process. Period. Nobody would go back to the drawing board after 10 months of work just to see it all vetoed.

7. Put a gun to the bill, and gently press the trigger. |

I would rather fight for single payer, Medicare for all, and take the issue to the country.
Kill this turkey!
