What do the Republicans have against 9/11 1st responders?
I am trying to understand why the GOP is against these brave people. These people risked their lives to help on 9/11 yet they are thought of as filth by the RW. What is the deal?

1. They got in the way of the GOP's efforts to control the budget...
.... and get a tax cut for the wealthy.

We knew who the heroes were .... and now we know the villains.

3. Many were Hispanic and Black, so you can see their hateful derision toward them
Not many of them had a nice second vacation home in the Hamptons nor a decent German import convertible to drive the mistress around after a round of golf before a nice sunset cruise in the new yacht.

They even had New York accents, which doesn't sound so good at the country club unless they are saying "yes sir, I'll make sure your Lamborghini is polished when you're finished dinner on the veranda."

Even that is troublesome and uncomfortable to them.

4. They want anyone who loves this country to DIE...
That may not be it, but that's what I'm going with.

I seems like every fascist wraps themselves with the flag, holds a bible, and then proceeds to kill as many people as they can.

7. They are convenient props for the GOP and actually having the gall to ask...
Edited on Fri Dec-17-10 12:35 AM by prairierose
for health care is beyond the pale. The GOP only really cares about rich people not people who work for a living. And certainly not anyone who was hurt on the job and needs help. After all, giving these people healthcare would set a bad precedent...somebody might use this to say that all citizens deserve healthcare or something else stupid like that.

edited to add :sarcasm:

10. They only serve one purpose
As a reason to go to war and justify torture and as a photo op to make Bush look good with his resolve. Not to drain the coffers or be spoiled by government.

I'm not kidding.

11. For the GOP, 9/11 was not real, its just a symbol, or a brand.

For them, 9/11 isn't about the people who died, or the first responders, or about any of the people who were actually involved directly.

9/11 is a symbol of GOP strength and power. Its is a symbol of Democratic weakness. It is a symbol which reminds us that those Arabs and Muslims are not Christians, and need to die. It is what drives the call for endless war.

The GOP thinks that 9/11 belongs to them. They think they hold the copyright.

And they don't like these first responders trying to horn in on, or take credit for, the GOP's 9/11 brand.

26. BINGO!
This is the main reason. The big money that donate to the republicans don't want to lose those loopholes, and when money talks, republicans listen, and vote for whatever the big money wants!

pressured the GOP to defeat it because it closed tax loophole for foreign owned companies in order to pay for it.

19. Simple
President Obama would be the one signing the bill. Although one might wonder why Repubs didn't introduce/pass this while they were in power and Bush could've signed it.

felt that it wasn't payed for and would add to the deficit, however we figured a way to pay for it and now have enough votes to pass it.

27. Republicans get off to seeing people die without health care,
it's why they're against a public option or single payer. It's the only way they'll get a chubby, if someone doesn't get health care.
