DREAM Act heads towards being a Democratic Dream |
|
Edited on Fri Dec-17-10 07:41 PM by denem
One of the less high profile campaigning conduits in 2008 was Spanish language media, carrying a simple message: "They (Republicans) don't like you". A few soundbites of Rush et al, then fade out.
If, as expected, the DREAM act fails in the Senate, the scripts write themselves, starting, I guess, with - 'An American Dream'.
George W. Bush did his best to stop the GOP going down the path into long term marginalization. He failed.

1. I love how Republicans keep saying on Spanish speaking TV |
|
that the DREAM act is "Just a political ploy by Democrats to alienate Hispanics from the GOP"
Ya think? The Democrats are forcing the GOP to spew their racist venom toward Hispanic kids who want to study?
Ridiculous

2. Durbin and Menendez were just speaking on the Senate floor |
|
After both made a compelling speech, Dubin praised Menendez's and spoke of having called colleagues who said this type of issue makes them toss and turn at night. Menendez replied that happens when you know the right thing to do and feel for other reasons you must do the opposite.
Here's hoping there are enough Republicans with enough conscience to toss and turn - and realize that this is too important for partisan politics. (Hasn't happened this year - but who knows.)

.... her gaffe with the school children "I dont know, some of you could BE Hispanic, you certainly look it!" is largely credited for helping rally Latinas around Harry Reid down the home stretch.
