What to do when the Republicans refuse to vote on anything but tax breaks
Day 1: Schedule a vote on DREAM Act with the talking point "Men and women who were brought here as children without legal status want to die for us, we at least can make them legal. A tax break for millionaires can wait in my book but obviously not in the Republican book."
Let it get defeated.
Day 2: Schedule a vote on DADT repeal with the talking point "America is about equality-and equality means that Americans who happen to be gay should have the same right to serve their country as anyone else. Millionaires can be asked to sacrifice a few thousand dollars for the soldiers. But obviously Republicans hate our soldiers else why would they be holding them hostage?"\
Same
Day 3: Schedule a vote on the 9/11 bill with the talking point: "You know, I could stand-barely but I could stand it-when the Republicans put a few measly thousand dollars before our soldiers rights and needs. But how DARE they? How DARE they take the men and women who ARE DYING right now without adequate funding for their care and families and hold them hostage for a few thousand dollars. Those millionaires are happy to help..." *make sure you have some millionaires standing around you and nodding their heads when at the podium*
We know it will be defeated...
Day 4: Re-schedule the vote on the DREAM Act...but ratchet up the tension by being a lot nastier. "Sgt. So and So joined the US military with a dream in his mind-to serve the greatest nation on Earth. So what do the Republicans do? Spit on him. Oh yeah, they are spitting on his dream to make his contribution to the United State of America. Call them and ask them why they think it is okay to spit on soldiers."
Day 5: Re-schedule a vote on DADT repeal, again, jacking up the rhetoric, ask a family of a slain gay American soldier for permission to talk about him or her. "PFC So and So was a person who believed in the wonder that is our nation. That we truly mean that we are all equal-and so he (or she) joined our military to show how important it is to protect that concept. However, the Republicans believe that this person is not equal-that millionaires require more money rather than a soldier being able to be enjoy the rights they are fighting and dying for.

*leave that percolating over the weekend*

Day 6 of voting: Reschedule the 9/11 bill with a simple message: let the men and women have a chance to speak about what they think of this complete disregard for them.

Lather, rinse and repeat until the political pressure explodes on the Republicans and it will.

But then, that takes balls and who expects either Reid or Obama to have them?

1. Reid has told them they have to keep working until they get this shit done
When Kyl and DeMint complained that it wasn't "Christian" to work on the holidays, Reid reminded their sorry asses that lots of Americans work on Christmas day.

I think you've got your narrative and you are sticking to it, irregardless of the facts.

10. Basically it is like this:
Instead of doing a damn thing to stand up to them before this weekend, he is now making them do a weekend worth of work?

Big whoop.

obstructing and running out the clock with "procedural maneuvers". Reid is exploiting their lazyass need for Vaycay to finally get stuff done. I will find the video for you if I can.

I've got to get the family fed right now, so it will be a little while. Perhaps once you have seen it you will have a different idea about what ia going on.

16. Just too bad he didn't do this kind of thing
last year, or earlier this year, when it could have meant something.

3. If the Dream act applied just to the military maybe that would work.
But all they need is to be enrolled in College for 2 years. That sounds like a boon for those hoax for-profit colleges to me. Those colleges are already vehicles for ripping off student loans, now it will be a paid for backdoor green card.

4. Oh I know-but when talking about a bill
who said we have to talk about everything in it?

The important bit is to hammer the Republicans on the parts that show them to be the hypocritical asshats they are, not the parts that let them hammer us.

11. Hit them where they are strongest is a good strategy
It works to make them have to be on the defensive.

That is the point. Do you have no idea how politics works?
