One down...Another to go...
Thank you Mr. President for getting this done, along with so many other Dems and a few of you Republicans. This is appreciated by the nation as a whole, I'm sure the LGBT community, and a sincere thanks again by myself.

I realized it took you two years of crap to get things done. You took hit from both the left and the right. Mixed messages were coming from all fronts but I must admit that even if at times you have faltered in your message...you have always stuck true that under your watch DADT will be repealed. You would make sure of it. I trust you for that.

I don't know if it will take you another two years or if needed another 6 years. I hope you move onto the next promise of yours for the LGBT community. The repeal of DOMA. I know your own personal views about it, however you also recognize (as you've stated for stem cell research) that there are things bigger than your own personal views. I also know you recognize that personal preference has no bearing on the politics of the nation and the infringement of rights. I'm sure Truman was no Black lover, when he realized that the nation was moving forward. This goes all the way back to Lincoln and so many Presidents who have done Progressive things.

As such, I hope that, even if you take your time. Even if I don't even get half of what your strategy is or how you hope to get it done. You've got my support and definitely my gratitude. At times I have been put on the fence of my support---yeah even me. However, I've come to realize that more often than not you've come through and tried to make amends or do the best you can.

I have to say it's under your presidency that I truly understand what people mean when they speak about a "political climate." There is no such thing as a window of opportunity, it's just what you can do when the climate calms a bit to do some things, even if they are minute. Because when it gets violent again you can lose it all or everything is delayed.

Not to mention you've also shown to me that you're not playing with a full deck and lady luck is willing to rob you sooner than help you. You've got not only Republicans against your progressive agenda, but you've got a good number of the Democratic party against any real agenda of progress. Many may say that you can "twist arms" or you had a "window of opportunity" I've come to realize you really didn't have that with the Congress you were given. Not really. It took you two years but you got it done with the help of some people who developed a back bone and some who were tiptoeing around to stay safe.

Thanks Reid and thanks Pelosi---not to mention the 3 or 4 Repubs who took a chance. And again...thanks Mr. President. When it seems so many have turned their back on you. Even if you don't know me...I'll stand stead fast and support. You're far from a bigot, corporatist, lying, flip-flopper Bush for me (some of the words used against you on this site). You're my President and I'm bloody glad I voted for you.
