Another Obama Legislative Achievement: Food Safety Bill Passes in Senate
Food Safety Bill Passes in Surprise
"A bill that would overhaul the nation's food-safety laws for the first time since the Great Depression came roaring back to life Sunday as Senate Democrats struck a deal with Republicans that helped overcome a technical mistake made three weeks ago and a filibuster threat that seemed likely to scuttle the legislation," the Washington Post reports.

"Without notice and in a matter of minutes Sunday evening, the Senate approved the bill by unanimous consent, sending it to the House, where passage is expected. President Obama has said he would sign the legislation, which would give the government far-reaching authority to set and enforce safety standards for farmers and food processors."

1. Well from some of the comments on DU this is a bad thing. Don't even bother
reading the comment section in some of these articles Republicans out in full force.

6. Locovores / foodies dislike it
As do the farmers that sell to them. That's hardly "Republican".

2. Hasn't been signed yet. Once again, I hold my breath. Unless of course
Obama has made a clear and unequivocal public statement since it passed Congress that he WILL sign it.

4. "President Obama has said he would sign the legislation"
I'll assume that was gleamed from a public statement and it wasn't from a fly on the wall.

7. To some of us, that's one more NOT good thing that's been accomplished.
The law was sponsored by Monsanto, I believe. Why would they want a decent food law passed?
