What If McCain and Palin Won?
Call it Obama’s Wonderful Life. Ex-Bush aide Matt Latimer imagines what would have happened if the Republican ticket had taken the White House in 2008—and where the world would be now.
It is almost Christmas. A morose Barack Obama, believing his presidency has no meaning, wanders the White House. He looks again at the crumpled Nov. 14th Washington Post op-ed that he keeps in his pocket and just cannot throw away. The article, penned by former Clinton aides, urges Obama not to seek reelection in 2012. They make this appeal not so that Hillary can run in his place—selfish motivations are notoriously taboo in Clintonworld—but strictly out of a sincere belief that a failed one-term presidency is in Obama's best interest.
“Should I take their advice?" Obama asks himself, as he leans over the Truman Balcony and looks at the White House grounds below. “Should I commit political suicide? Have I done any good for anyone?”

Just then a figure materializes before him. “I am your guardian angel,” the voice says. “You have done much good for those around you. Tonight I am going to show you what the world would be like without you."
A television materializes before them, and MSNBC’s Keith Olbermann appears on screen.
“I don’t believe it,” Obama gasps. “MSNBC is still on the air, even without me?”
“Yes, and doing better than ever,” the angel responds. “Watch and learn.”
“Good evening,” Keith Olbermann says. “It is December 17, 2010, and this is MSNBC, the No. 1 channel in cable news. Now to our top stories...
“President John McCain is pledging to move quickly to fill the vacancy left by Sarah Palin's stunning announcement last week that she would not complete her term as vice president of the United States. Denying widespread reports that she and the president are no longer on speaking terms, Vice President Palin, who communicates with the press only through Twitter, tweeted that the overwhelming press scrutiny “from the lamestream media” and actress Tina Fey were making it “darn tootin' impossible to do this here job.” Already reports are surfacing that Mrs. Palin has signed with a Washington super-agent for a two-part book deal. She is also making preliminary steps to seek a job that she feels will have less press scrutiny: the presidency of the United States.

1. I See No Difference
we've got the same media, the same policies, the same wars...the deterioration of dialog and economy would probably speed up, but at this point, the sooner we come to a total collapse, the sooner this fraudulent culture gets shut down and recovery really starts.

5. That is my take on the situation. The little good that Obama will do is more than offset
by the damage he is doing to (a) the Democratic "brand" by putting the donkey label on more war, unemployment, etc..., (b) any chance for real progress by blowing the best opportunity in 50 years and (c) tempering the crises just enough to placate the masses for the foreseeable future.

Now, only by total collapse and severe hardship for a large number of Americans will we come to a point where the cry for progress will be strong enough to prod action.

6. We Would Have Two More Conservative Justices
DADT would not have been repealed
There would be tax cuts for the rich without the goodies for the working class and middle class
Unemployment extensions would have been capped at twenty six weeks, consigning millions of the unemployed to homelessness, starvation, and despair.
We wouldn't have the Lily Lebetter Act extending the statute of limitations for gender discrimination suits.

14. and apparently we would have millions more unemployed, homeless and destitute
Something that some of the posters in this thread incredibly seem to think would be a good thing.

2. The Start Treaty would have already been ratified and the 9/11 Responders bill would have passed
Besides that it would be a downhill trip.

7. Right - That's the "downhill" I was referring to in my reply to the OP
And the downhill list would be a very long one as I'm sure they would have served up one damned headache after another.

8. As we see from Mr. Obama's supply side deals with repubs it makes no difference
on the economic front. We'd never get DADT repeals, and that sort of thing through, but in terms of economics it does not matter at all.

9. Palin might have already quit by now
McCain would have probably keeled over and we would have had to listen to Palin on State of the Unions and such, but then she would have called it quits so she could spend time with the family or some think dumb.

Thank God, it turned out like it did!

12. This misses the obvious point. If there were no Obama, Hillary would be president.

13. Let's see
Umployment would be over 20 percent since GM and Chrysler would have gone under and no stimulas to help states.Mccain's stimulas
would have been new Tax Cuts for the rich.Policeman,Firemen, and Teachers all over country would have been laid off.

No Regulations of any kind

More troops In Iraq not less.

No repeal of DADT.
