Obama Demands: The Bill I Sign Must Include Public Option

Ahhh...remember the "good old days" (last July)?

:eyes:

Any plan I sign must include an insurance exchange: a one-stop shopping marketplace where you can compare the benefits, cost and track records of a variety of plans - including a public option to increase competition and keep insurance companies honest - and choose what's best for your family.

7. In fairness, Obama never explicitly promised he wouldn't totally lie to us.
Really, you should have known what you were getting when you voted for him.

(And yes, this needs the :sarcasm: tag because it's just too damn close to some "serious" posts here at DU)

11. Damn! You're right.
I am all sorts of relieved. The light has gone on. No, I think I'm having a stroke. Either way, I can just quit worrying about it all now.

16. Bingo! Sooner or later they will catch on to what is coming, Armstead.
The entire debate was a fraud from the beginning. This entire Kabuki dance has been an orchestrated puppet show with the final bill always sitting on Rahm's desk just as the insurance executives who met with Obama early on wanted it to be.

All the "debate", the teabagging by the right, the townhalls was all just fig leafs to deliver what you have correctly called it "the public option to buy private insurance or get fined."

We all knew we had been betrayed when he gave the "splinter" speech.

Sigh.

18. Don't force people to buy private insurance
If they are so inept (and/or corrupt)n that they can't pass an idea that a majority of the public supports -- at least don't make the situation worse by handing a huge gift to the insurance industry by picking the pockets of the public.

A mandate is supposed to be a trade off. But in this case, only the public is required to give while the insurance industry gets to take it all.

20. To be fair, no bill has yet been presented for his signature
The bill passed by the House will have to be reconciled with whatever emerges from the Senate, so there's a chance (however remote it might be) that he could sign a bill that includes a public option.

22. And it was only a few weeks after that that we got the "sliver"
Which we can now recognize as the beginning of the end.

Of Obama's promises, and Obama's promise.

Sad.
