Screw a Christmas deadline --Pick it up in January and do it right |
|
This artificial deadline is ridiculous.
It's marketing over the public good.
Who gives a rats ass if it is passed now or in 2010?

2. You don't want this spilling into an election year |
|
and Blanche Lincoln--who is barely on board as it is now--would get weaker and weaker in the knees the closer this gets to election day. (She's up in 2010)

5. Maybe an election yearwill remind them they need the voters |

and a majority of democrats want some form of public option.

Look what primary challenges have done to Spector and Bennett, they've acted like Democrats.

14. One difference between Specter/Bennett and Blanche Lincoln |
|
She comes from a state that voted 60% for John McCain in 2008, one of the few states Republicans improved their margins over 2004.
Lincoln is one of our most endangered senators, I doubt she will be doing any lurching left over the next year.

4. Truth is if it doesn't pass before 2010, it may not pass at all. |
|
To delay the bill is to kill the bill. Of course, that would not disappoint some of our DU friends.
Plus the Senate has bunches of other stuff to consider once January rolls around. Now's the time to put this sucker to bed, once and for all.

7. Why would it kill the bill? The make up of Congress isn't changing. |
|
And are they gong to be just as ineffectual about the "bunches of other stuff" too?
They should do it right or don't do it.
Don't force people to buy private insurance without a public option, thus increasing the stranglehold the insurance industry already has. That's not the right thing to do -- it's also politically stupid and will strengthen the GOP's hand in the election.

Don't push a bill that's Not Ready for Prime Time yet.
A half assed bill that includes mandates but no public coverage is worse than no bill.

.... and any time we find ourselves agreeing with a tactic used by the GOP regarding progressive legislation, we have to question who's interest we're really looking after.

Sadly, the Party of the People is unable to get our act together and even pass what was originally a compromise public option or tiny little medicare buy in.
Now they are scrambling like panicked rabbits trying to get something -- anything -- because somneone decreed this has to be passed by Christmas.
They should have gotten their act together long ago. But since they coiuldn't, they should at least take the time to pass a bill that doesn't do more harm than good, unlike this atrocity.

13. In this case, the "right wing" is right -- It should not have gotten to this point but it has |
|
At the moment, the democrats are in such disarray that whatever is passed is being done in panic mode to meet an artificial deadline. And it's going to so corrupted and confused is likely to be worse than nothing. Mandates swithout a public option? Bullshit, especially when it runs contrary to what most people want.
Take the time to do it correctly.

Maybe the outcome would be the same, but it would leave more room to try and work around Mr. Lieberman and his ilk.

25. the special election to fill ted kennedy's seat will be on Jan 19 |
|
the winner will undoubtedly be Martha Coakley. I presume that she supports a at least a public option. THAT would get us a vote closer to 60, and all we have to do is wait until january.
I think waiting turns out to be a good idea in this case. we will get a better bill.

why does congress move at a snails pace? What this healthcare debacle has shown me is that congress is totally inept. I am truly amazed at the laser beam outrage at the President but yet the congress is where everything goes to die. The Dems are a just a collection of broken parts, all have got their own agendas. It truly amazes me how many people sing Kucinich’s praise but yet he has not been able to convince too many of his colleagues to vote his way. Same goes for Feingold who also seems to be a favorite among people here. If these two are such great leaders how come not too many of their colleagues are following them? The blame is with congress; at this rate the President will be lucky to get a small fraction of his agenda thru by the end of his first term.
