Medvedev: "Obama knows how to listen, not trapped by stereotypes and is a man who keeps his word"
MOSCOW — Russia’s president, Dmitri A. Medvedev, on Friday called the New Start treaty “a cornerstone of security for the coming decades,” and spoke warmly of President Obama, saying that “under very difficult circumstances, he managed to make the Senate ratify this document.”

Mr. Medvedev said Mr. Obama “is a man who knows how to hear and to listen, a man not trapped by stereotypes, a man who lives up to this standard — he keeps his word.” He said he expects the thaw in relations between Russia and the United States to be a lasting one, despite midterm Congressional election gains by Republicans who are wary of Russia.

“There are people in America who are sympathetic to the ‘reset,’ ” he said. “There are others who shudder at the thought of it, and think all evil is concentrated in the Russian Federation. This is just democracy at work. Still, I think American society and its establishment will have enough tact and self-control to continue this path.”

Might have said it, but actions speak louder than words.

5. I think Obama and Medvedev, somehow relate to each other.

More than any Russian and US leaders before. Well, Yeltsin and Clinton seemed to get a long well too. Although with Clinton and Yeltsin it was really warm in front of the cameras far as I could tell.

Obama and Medvedev seem to actually be closer in private than public. I think both are younger and more forward thinking but they are both have to deal with elements in their own countries that either have the cold war mindset still, or have a business, or political interest in promoting an us vs them mindset.

Seems to me though that the USSR has benefitted the most from the easing of hostilities with the US. Rather than using the warming of relations as an excuse to reduce our huge defense budget like we did at first under Bush 1 and Clinton, once we had 9/11 they whited out "communisim" penciled in "Terrorisim" and the same politicians and companies that profited from the Cold war took control.

One of the reasons I voted for Obama was that he was younger and seemed to have less of that mindset than Hillary or McCain who grew up more during the cold war. Hell the Bush admin was working on re starting the Cold War. I guess their buddies weren't making enough green on the War On Terror.

I really pray Obama is is successful at improving international relations, we get out of the wars, and we sort of get the "peace dividend" that helped us during the Clinton years.

If you look at the budget really, talking about the deficit/debt and all, the two areas I see where our spending is way out of line w/other countries is Health Care and Defense. I'm hoping we do something about that before we screw up anybodies Social Security or Medicare coverage.

9. Medvedev? Does anyone realize that this guy holds no power in Russia.
He's just a puppet for Putin. Putin pulls the strings, Medvedev dances. Sure, Putin will let him meet with world leaders and even let him wax poetic about said world leaders, but no real action is taken without Putin.
