High Priority -- Sanders Amendment to Be Heard—SEND FREE FAX NOW…..

Lets go for broke and flood their offices.

By Donna Smith, American Sicko

This is it, Medicare for All, single-payer advocates. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid announced tonight that tomorrow the Senate will hear several more amendments to the health reform bill - and one of those amendments is Sen. Bernie Sanders' single-payer amendment No. 2837. The amendment also has two other original co-sponsors, Sen. Sherrod Brown of Ohio and Sen. Roland Burris of Illinois.

We need you to fax or call the phone numbers below now. Click here to fax for free.

http://www.1payer.net/faxapp/senders/add/cid:47

We never knew if we'd get to this point. And it is your work and your passion that got the single-payer effort this far. Let's send this message as loudly and clearly as we can.
So, in a historic turn of events, single-payer healthcare will finally be heard by this Congress. Single-payer is a wonderful idea from the left - public financing - combined with a terrific idea from the right - private delivery, and put together in one common sense plan for all. One single standard of high quality healthcare - everybody in, nobody out.
Our effort is needed one more time - we need to let Senator Reid know we are pleased the Senate will hear the amendment, but we must also ask our Senators to vote in favor of it. The numbers for phoning are:

Make the calls to Sen. Harry Reid and your U.S. Senators TONIGHT:
Washington, D.C., office: (202) 224-3542
Las Vegas, NV, office: (702) 388-5020
U.S. Capitol Switchboard: (202) 224-3121
Peace - onward. We shall overcome. Healthcare is a basic human right.

We need a massive outpouring of faxes and phone calls to the office of Harry Reid, who is the key to getting a vote on Sen. Sanders' amendment. Click here to send your fax now to your Senators and to Sen. Reid urging a vote on SA 2837, the Sanders single payer amendment.

Click here to send your fax now to your Senators and Senator Reid

Then call the offices of your Senators (numbers here).

Then call the office of Sen. Reid (202) 224-3542 to ask him to allow floor debate and a vote on SA 2837.

5. What I sent to the Arizona delegation:
I know that Senator Mc Cain and Senator Kyl will probably never vote for anything that so clearly resembles the dreaded socialized medicine. I know that they are staunch republicans who believe in the sanctity of a natural elite class -- of which they are members by some divine right -- and that the rights enumerated in the Declaration of Independence only really accrue to fellow members of that class. I know that my words will either never reach them, be scoffed at by them, or merely ignored. But I will take the time and spend the effort to try to reach them anyway.

You will vote for war and death, for debt and poverty, but you will not vote for health care. That makes you, gentlemen, cruel and heartless. You dismiss the working people, you destroy them, and that makes you mean and spiteful. You worship a god who picks and chooses who he will bless with wealth and power and you conveniently believe it is wrong to interfere with that god's plan. And yet the son of that god, whose birth you will no doubt be celebrating in just a few days, commanded you to love your neighbor. He told you it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of needle than for a rich man to enter heaven. He excoriated the moneychangers, and he healed the sick and lame without demanding proof of insurance.

Shouldn't you follow his example?

To My Senators and Sen. Reid
Senators Sanders, Burris and Brown have proposed SA 2837, creating a single payer Medicare For All health care system. America deserves an opportunity to have this issue debated on the floor of the Senate, and Senator Reid, you are the key decision-maker here.

Medicare for all is the best solution. It is the cheapest and fairest. It allows the government to negotiate good prices on drugs and services. England, France and other single payer (government) insurance is substantially cheaper than what we are paying now and delivers much better results. At present the US ranks 37th in health care delivery--you'd be better off in Cuba or Costa Rica in terms of life expectancy or infant mortality.

Health insurance is NOT Health Care. It is time to give everyone in America the right to health care. The way to do that is simple and obvious and efficient. Get rid of the outmoded antique dinosaurs called health insurance companies by enacting a plan like Medicare that covers everyone. In fact, even simpler -- lower the Medicare age of eligibility to birth. With all those new young people in Medicare, the Medicare Trust Fund will be flush, there will be no more worries for seniors about inadequate funding and we will save the 800 billion per year now wasted by insurance company paperwork.

There is really no reason for private companies to do primary care insurance--they have every economic motive to deny care when they do--indeed it is their fiduciary duty to their stockholders. And we tax payers get stuck paying for the people they won't cover as well as people who can't afford their inflated fees. Speaking about death panels--Blue Cross here in California lost a recent court case because if someone came down with cancer or some other costly disease and they found that the person had a cold in 1973 they'd claim undisclosed, pre-existing conditions and dump the person even after taking years of premiums from them.

Get the insurers out of the primary care business and let them sell insurance for add-on services like they do in England and other places. They have nothing worthwhile to add to primary care. I would much rather pay some civil servant $100k a year to supervise health care delivery and insurance than pay some clown in the private sector $70 million a year. That is a number that equals a lot premiums paid for health care denied and a lot of people killed for profit. It is morally repugnant to me that almost 50,000 people a year in a country as rich as this are dying from lack of health care. Especially when it would be cheaper than what we are paying right now to simply directly insure them with Medicare.

The recent health care legislation that is being pushed is another gift to drug and insurance lobbyists. It may offer some improvement if they get rid of lifetime caps and pre-existing conditions. But forcing people to buy insurance is absurd--they are not buying it because they can't afford it. The proposed legislation will save some tax money. But the most efficient and tax reducing way to deal with health costs is to have single payer and allow the government to be the insurer.

We believe you have integrity and intelligence and courage. Please don't disappoint Americans like me -- allow the Senate to debate and vote on SA 2837.
Sincerely,
