3. I guess that means republicans put the interests of their party over the
interests of the country.

I knew this all along and yet they have laid claim to the Red White and Blue.

That they are war mongers but do not serve should speak volumes to anyone who gives a damn...

4. That is very strange
Since Obama has rolled over and accomodated them at EVERY SINGLE TURN. In essence, his policies are their policies....and they want their own policies to fail?!?

21. Pure bullshit!!!
He's rolled over for no one.

But then, you'll never get that he's done what needs to be done to see that the middle class doesn't get fucked over more by the rich Republicans.

So continue to spew the right wing talking points. Those who understand why he did what he did appreciate it.

31. Ummm........maybe because he actually HASN'T?
The Republicans HATED the stimulus, they HATE the health care reform law and want to repeal it, they HATE the financial regulation reform law (and the new CPA) and want to repeal it, and not all of them are happy with the tax deal that he and some of them cobbled together because it extended unemployment benefits for some workers. If Obama has been accommodating the Republicans, then the Republicans sure as hell have a funny way of showing appreciation for HIS accommodation of them not to mention that none of the aforementioned things would've become law had he had truly "accommodated" the Republicans on any of them.

11. the question's way too loaded to be useful
referring to them as "obama's policies" without specifying what they are makes it almost a political identity / partisan approval question.

of course partisan opponents will say no.

first, they believe obama's policies include sending jackbooted thugs to takeover alabama and selling gramma's kidneys to iran and putting alah akbhar in the pledge of allegiance. so of course they want his policies to fail.

second, whatever policies they do want to succeed they wouldn't want to be known as "obama's policies".

You know the GOP would use a poll like this about a republican president to try to force through something war or terrorism related.

25. And another statistic from the same poll...
Edited on Thu Dec-30-10 02:32 AM by namahage
Apart from whether you approve or disapprove of the way Barack Obama is handling his job as president, what do you think of Obama as a person? Would you say you approve of him or disapprove of him?

All respondents: (MoE 3%)
Approve: 73%
Disapprove: 22%

Democrats: (MoE 5.5%)
Approve: 94%
Disapprove: 5%

Independents: (MoE 4.5%)
Approve: 73%
Disapprove: 21%

Republicans: (MoE 6%)
Approve: 42%
Disapprove: 49%

It is rather interesting that the percentage of Democrats that want Obama's policies to fail is the same as those who disapprove of him as a person. In EVERY other case (and yes, that includes Republicans) a SIGNIFICANTLY lesser percentage disapprove of him as a person than hope for Obama's policy failure.

So maybe for some Democrats, it ISN'T just about policy over personality...

30. I'm not surprised!
Obama is literally evil incarnate to Republicans. He cannot have the best interests in America in mind, and he in fact has ulterior motives to destroy the country -- ergo, Republicans hope his policies FAIL. Makes sense to me.

34. Titles a bit misleading. The average reader would gather something different..
from that title than what the poll was actually asking.

I guess personally I'm not shocked that one political party would want to see the other political party's candidate fail. They're not SUPPOSED to support the other party's agenda, that's why they run against each other

35. Did you want to see Bush fail after 9/11?
I doubt it, most people didn't, he had 90% approval.

Obama inherited a financial 9/11, there's no sane reason for any sensible person to want him to fail.

39. Well, that's because they disagree with his policies. So it was the way it was worded.
It's not the same as a poll saying that they want Obama personally to fail, or the country to fail generally. But since they disagree with his policies, I would expect that they hope his policies fail. That makes sense. Just like WE would have wanted Bush's policies to fail (his tax cuts for the rich), since we disagreed with those policies. (Although I don't think those on the left would've wished for the Iraq War to fail, but I'm not sure.)
