Kucinich, Facing Loss of Congressional District, Rules Out Presidential Bid
Washington's The Hill is reporting:

Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio) suggested Tuesday that he would fight to remain in Congress even if the 2010 census leads to the elimination of his district.

"It really comes down to a pretty hard and fast political equation," Kucinich told Fox News. "My district could be absorbed into many other districts. It could literally disappear, or I could end up with a new district with a core of my district intact.

"When I see the map," he said, "I'll be able to tell you exactly what my next move is and where I'll be running."

Ohio is poised to lose two of its 18 congressional districts based on the census figures - part of a larger trend in which blue-ish states in the Northeast lost seats to redder states in the South and the West. Ohio's population grew by nearly 200,000 people over the last decade, but other states grew at a faster clip.

Republicans next year will control the Ohio House, the state Senate and the governor's mansion, meaning the redistricting lines will be drawn to favor GOP candidates.

I wish California would disolve Darrel Issa's district!

1. Can a Congressional District sue to protect its existence?

Besides the standard gerrymandering action . . . .

2. I don't know. But even if it could the thugs don't care. They'll just get their
corrupt judges to rule in their favor.

5. No gerrymandering for party has been ruled to be perfectly OK
by SCOTUS.

7. I think there are some Voting Rights Act issues that can be raised
which would likely happen if they try to mess too much with the neighboring district in Cleveland (Marcia Fudge). It's more likely (according to an Ohio pol blog) http://www.plunderbund.com/2010/12/29/oh-13-is-redistricting-talk-already-brewing-a-potential-suttonkucinich-primary/ that they would redraw Kuch's district with that held by Betty Sutton (large part of Lorain County with some of Cuyahoga and Medina - formerly held by Sherrod Brown before he was elected to the Senate).

It's gonna suck... as are all things political in Ohio for the next 4 years.

Personally, I'd rather keep Betty. I've met them both.

6. I gues we'll miss his 1-4% in the primaries in 2012.
Although he got almost 40%(!) in polls on DU in 2008.
