Is the left going to wake up and finally remember who is the real enemy? |
|
Or are they going to continue the war against the most progressive president in decades, while strengthening the most radical and crazy Republican party ever?
I sort of know the answer, but i hope to be surprised.

He certainly has signaled his willingness to work with "the most radical and crazy Republican party ever." Doesn't exactly inspire confidence.

56. Why? Since when does "the left" equate to "some posters on DU?" |
|
Answer? It doesn't.
But that doesn't stop people from crying "punched hippie" about THEMSELVES when they feel they're being insulted.
And it didn't stop people from (incorrectly) proclaiming themselves to be proud members of the "Professional Left" in 'defiance' of Gibbs.

19. You know what the answer will be: Obama is the enemy because he's going to cut |
|
social security!
No evidence. No facts. Not even a profession from the mouths of his advisors and staff. Nothing.
Just pure conjecture. Rumor. Innuendo. Hyperbole.
Just understand that not all liberals object. A large percentage of us are still on the president's side. We may not be happy about some of his decisions. We may not be happy that he has failed to get a coherent message out about his agenda and what the Republicans are attempting to do. We may not be happy about how the Democrats squandered an opportunity to run on a winning issue: the expiring Bush tax cuts. But, most of us are still in his corner and want him to succeed.
Just remember that. We don't ALL think, act, and walk alike!

Now, if that's bullshit as you claim then you ought to demand a retraction from Mr. Kuttner.
Then again, if the President does propose SS cuts I predict the usual crowd here will give themselves whiplash doing an about-face to defend them.

68. There's a lot to be said for making a huge stink at the first mention of such a thing |
|
The Simpson-Bowles connivers sent up quite a few trial balloons, and they're listening very carefully to what happens. A little pre-emptive shrieking is a healthy thing.
We've been appealed to SO MANY TIMES with the misty-eyed dreaminess of how Obama's going to make it all right for us, so that appeal is worn thin.
If this offends anyone, then let them be offended; our future rides on some rather important decisions that are coming down the pike sooner than we may think, and the idea that it's not cricket to spoil one's hero-worship by offering a few "oh, by the ways" on our President's performance is to effectively hold the rest of us ransom for one's personal snuggly-wuggly comfort.
Waiting until "the plan" is offered is waiting until it's too late.
We bitch about not holding the reactionaries' feet to the fire, but we should also hold our leader's feet accordingly. I want to hear a reporter specifically ask: do you have any intention to reduce or alter the current Social Security form, and do you have any intention to eliminate or change the mortgage deduction?
Waiting for "the plan" is crazy. Too bad if it's combative or impolite to presume the worst. Bummer. Obama reminds me so much of Bill Clinton that it makes me squirm. Look at what he did to welfare and financial regulations. Look at NAFTA. Look at Faith Based initiatives; they started under Clinton.
Sure, wait until the plan's already been agreed upon behind closed doors, because you won't see "the plan" until it's already been bartered pretty much into existence. Then what?

50. Can we talk about "labels" for just a minute? |
|
I consider myself "leftist", "liberal", and "progressive". Yet, despite his few failures I recognize that this President (although certainly not "perfect") really IS the most Progressive AND the most effective President in decades.
In fact, MOST self-identifying "Liberals", "Progressives", etc. recognize the same if polls can be believed. It would seem that there is a small subset of the Left who are the "Contrarians" (term coined by Seth McFarlane in a "Family Guy" episode) who will be unhappy no matter who is in office.
Therefore, I think that when you speak of "The Left" I would hope that you would distiguish between the actual Left and the extremist Contrarian subset.
Because I, like many others, am a Leftist and I support this President. Please don't allow an extremist element to hijack the terms.

The left is not the enemy of Obama, we are the people who got him elected. Yet he treats us with great disrespect and he treats his real enemies and our real enemies much better than he treats us. They will not reduce their opposition to his policies, they will not befriend him, they will try to destroy him. He has pushed away his defenders and continues to do so. I hope and pray that enough of us will still fight for him in 2012 because his reelection is crucial. So is retaking the House.

The most progressive president in decades? If that's true God help you. You have been duped. But good. Noam Chomsky, Ralph Nader, Chris Hedges Glenn Greenwald and many others would not agree.
Very sad to watch duped Americans fight among themselves about left-right trivia while the country goes to hell. But, on the other hand, Americans are better off than all the innocent people their government is murdering elsewhere. Next on the agenda is Iran. The most progressive president is telling as many lies about Iran as the Bush government told about Iraq. Not very original lies, just the same old same old lying crap. How many times will you fall for it? Not that it matters because although over 60% of Americans are opposed, your "progressive president" will go right on in and destroy another beautiful country. Too bad the rest of the world has to suffer from your government's criminal wars.
