5. Open carry isn't all that unusual. |
|
The Huff Post posting makes it sound downright weird.
Some states make the distinction between loaded and unloaded open carry, some distinguish between longarms and others.
Oregon allowed open carry of unloaded firearms when I was there, and loaded open carry in cars; some jurisdictions banned loaded open carry in cars (but if it was in the trunk they usually wouldn't notice).

3. when I worked at Grand Canyon NP they warned us about this |
|
and because (at that time) it was not legal to do that on National Park Service land, we staff were told to report it to law enforcement.
as i understand it, Obama and congress have rescinded the Park service's ability to stop this behavior any longer, as they were able to when I worked there.

4. Oh Lord, your turning this into a gun control issue already? |
|
If we turn this into some gun control issue and embrace the gun grabber agenda we will lose whatever sympathy we might get from the American public.
Americans do NOT support gun control. Let it go. It's over. The Democratic party MUST continue divorcing itself from this exceedingly unpopular agenda.

6. In UK only the criminals have guns |
|
I hope we do not get there.
My guns are my last chance of defense against tyranny. I refuse to go like the hapless gunless innocent souls in Hitler's Germany who were herded like cattle to their death chambers. I at least want a chance to take down 1 or 2 of the tyrants goons.

7. Who here with a brain believes he would have obeyed the law and got a permit, also: |
|
If we ensured that AZ was a state where it was illegal to kill others, he probably wouldn't have done so.

9. Or what would have stopped him from just getting a permit anyway? |
|
If he has no serious criminal record and has never been committed to a mental hospital -- both of which already disqualify someone from buying a new gun at a store -- what would have stopped him from getting the permit?
Really, the only thing that could have prevented this tragedy is if he had been provided access to quality mental health care.

10. Many states let you carry a handgun visibly with no permit. It is the concealed |
|
carry that requires a license or permit in most states.
