Criminals, by definition, have little problem breaking laws.
Mexico has extremely strict gun control and yet the criminals in Mexico seem to have little shortage of firearms.

|
Edited on Mon Jan-10-11 01:36 AM by golfguru
by definition criminals are breakers of law. In United Kingdom only the criminals have guns.
If you can figure out a way to get all guns from criminals, gun control will work. Otherwise we law abiding citizens have no defense.
If several people standing near congresswoman Giffords had guns, chances are fewer people would have died and injured.

15. In Arizona, you don't have to have a license to carry a concealed weapon |
|
anymore. They've made it so easy for even law adiding citizens to shoot someone in a moment of rage, not to mention committing premedidated murder.

19. It could be argued that if someone wants to murder people ... |
|
a law that prohibits him from carrying a weapon is useless. Murder is already illegal and has far stricter punishment than carrying a firearm illegally.

21. You're right, and that's the case with all laws, but that's not the purpose of the concealed permit. |
|
Edited on Sat Jan-08-11 06:57 PM by Phx_Dem
The purpose of the concealed weapons permit is so that the rest of us have some comfort in knowing that the person standing next to us in line at the grocery store with a gun buldging from under his jacket, was considered responsible enough to be allowed to carry one and not some maniac that is planning to shoot up the place. Now if you see someone who has a gun buldge under his shirt, you can't assume (or even hope) he's a sane person who is licensed to carry it.
Anything can happen, but we still take precautions and do our best to make sure crazy people and criminals aren't allowed to carry concealed weapons that the rest of us are unaware of.

Personally I like Florida's shall issue system and have no desire to see it changed so that a license to carry is unnecessary.

I don't support banning gun but If this doen't point out there need to be some limits and some checks for guns and for those getting them I don't know what It will take to point this to people.

18. We have laws that prohibit certain people form owning firearms ... |
|
they vary from state to state but in most cases are reasonable. I believe that criminals with a history of violence are already prohibited from legally buying firearms.
Obviously the laws could be improved to better eliminate legal firearm ownership for people suffering from serious mental problems.

17. If they meet the legal requirements in their state ... |
|
I believe that they should be allowed to own firearms. As far as I know, no state has a law that denies the right to own a firearm to a member of a political party.
If we passed such a law, I don't believe that it would withstand legal scrutiny.

16. I may not agree with teabaggers or Republicans ... |
|
however I will defend their rights the same as I would defend the rights of a Democrat.
There are current laws that legislate who can legally own firearms. If a teabagger or a Republican meets the requirements in his state for owning a firearm, I have no problem with him doing so.
Perhaps these laws could be improved so as to better exclude those with serious mental issues. Perhaps these laws could be better enforced to stop those who are violent criminals from owning firearms. We can all work on this.
I would like to ask you what you suggest that we do with teabaggers? Since you say that they should not be allowed in any civilized country, where should they go?
Surely you wouldn't be thinking of concentration camps and gas chambers would you?
Somehow, I think the heat of the moment has led to a distortion in your logic.

They were reporting the name as Laughner, not Loughner.
edit: Now they are changing the spelling to Loughner on the news, so it's probably the same guy.

29. Classic symptoms of Schizophrenia in those vodeo's |
|
Schizophrenia is characterized by profound disruption in cognition and emotion, affecting the most fundamental human attributes: language, thought, perception, affect, and sense of self. The array of symptoms, while wide ranging, frequently includes psychotic manifestations, such as hearing internal voices or experiencing other sensations not connected to an obvious source (hallucinations) and assigning unusual significance or meaning to normal events or holding fixed false personal beliefs (delusions). No single symptom is definitive for diagnosis; rather, the diagnosis encompasses a pattern of signs and symptoms, in conjunction with impaired occupational or social functioning
