Roll Call Staff

Ashley Turton, former chief of staff to Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-Conn.) and wife of White House liaison to the House of Representatives Dan Turton, was found dead in her car Monday morning.

According to the D.C. Fire Department and Capitol Police, Turton’s car was found ablaze in a row house parking garage in the 800 block of A Street Southeast.

D.C. Fire and Capitol Police are investigating the crime scene. Neighbors said the fire started about 5 a.m. When the fire was extinguished, firefighters discovered Turton’s body inside the car.

The cause of the fire is being investigated, and homicide detectives are en route to the scene.

3. Tragic...She was Lobbyist for Progress Energy and had three small children,
hubby is liason to the House for Obama Administration.

Some More Background here:

Love is never having to say you lobby
by Chris Frates

White House congressional liaisons Dan Turton and Sean Kennedy work the halls of Congress for Obama at the same time their spouses are pitching the causes of outside interest. John Shinkle

Barack Obama is barring most lobbyists from working in his administration, but even the president can’t keep his aides from hopping into bed with them.

Turns out some administration staffers are married to lobbyists who deal with some of the same government issues.

Todd Rosenblum, deputy undersecretary of intelligence at the Department of Homeland Security, is married to Deborah Rosenblum, a lobbyist for the Cohen Group, a security-minded firm run by former Defense Secretary William Cohen.

White House congressional liaisons Dan Turton and Sean Kennedy work the halls of Congress for Obama at the same time their spouses are pitching the causes of outside interests: Ashley Turton is a lobbyist for utility giant Progress Energy, and Kristi Kennedy is a lobbyist with Elmendorf Strategies, which represents banking, energy and health care interests, among others.

Amy Hall, who runs the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services’ Office of Legislation, is married to Bryant Hall, the chief lobbyist for PhRMA, the drug industry’s trade association.

Melody Barnes, director of the White House Domestic Policy Council, is engaged to Marland Buckner, a lobbyist who has represented Microsoft.

The powerful partners offer evidence of the incestuous relationships that can define Washington power.

Washington’s power brokers spend years climbing the political ladder and, along the way, they work, play, drink and sometimes marry and raise a family together. It’s a part of the culture that makes so much of official Washington ripe for conflicts of interest and difficult for outsiders to penetrate.

4. This is SO sad and tragic
Ashley and Dan Turton are well-regarded on Capitol Hill. Very, very good, decent people.
