Your thoughts on what our society and the world in general will be like in 80 years. |
|
I recently read an article that printed some of the predictions made by some of our finest minds 80 years ago
I can't find the article...but I it got me thinking about how our world will change in the NEXT 80 years.
Serious thought proves this is a very difficult thing to do. So I thought I would ask the D.U. community to come up with some of their own predictions.
The question is what kind of changes will have occurred in our society and the world in 80 years?
A couple of my thoughts....
There will be a vast reduction of people on the planet. Possibly as much as 25 to 40%. This will not be a pretty thing to witness. Either food and water shortages, viruses or planetary catastrophes will reduce our population. I wish we could evolve to a point in our world to reduce population voluntarily but I am certain we are not mature enough as a species to tackle such a problem.
Someone will have figured out a way to harness static electricity and this will help free the world of most of it's addiction to oil.
What are some of yours?

5. There won't be any cash |
|
Everything can be paid for electronically.
Medical technology - perhaps no one will have to be paralyzed - people will have better health for not smoking, etc. - knowing those things are damaging.
English will be spoken by everyone with any education at all.
There will be some way to do without oil for energy - or some way to use nuclear power without waste.

16. I will be 143 years old...or more likely dead. At that time, we will see some first steps |

taken for the public option in health care in the US, but the GOP will stall and ask for more time to study the problem. Bristol Palin's daughter will be on the Supreme Court. The US capital will have moved to Hollywood because the weather is better and its more trendy and well,...closer to the beach. Employment rate will be almost as high as it is now. Gold will be $2 million per oz, and jewelery wil be made of plastic unless you are rich.
Rich people will own workers outright, but it won't be called slavery, rather something more friendly, but exactly the same otherwise. TV programming will REALLY suck! mark
