12. He has kept the country from going into a depression. I find that

pretty amazing, and I am grateful for that. Maybe you're too young to realize the ramifications of what could have happened if the president had not implemented the policies to prevent a depression. It might be helpful for you to do a little homework to recognize how dangerously close we were to one, and the utter devastation the country would have suffered as a result. No doubt, things are bad right now, but they could have been a whole lot worse.

So, while so-called "progressives" obsess over their pet issues, they need to recognize that the president had priorities and priority one was to stabalize the economy. Mission accomplished, Mr. President.

But I don't understand why he's criticized for using a teleprompter or from using prepared texts. I LIKE the idea that my President thinks carefully about what he is going to say and takes the time to organize his thoughts and words before presenting them. We don't need any more presidents who shoot from the hip and just "wing it" when communicating to the nation in critical times.

15. Sometimes speeches DO cut it

As I noted in another post, sometimes "just words" are just what we need.

Funny - I recall the President being harshly criticized a few months ago because, even though people agreed that he was doing everything he could to deal with the BP oil spill, he wasn't "setting the right tone," or "showing enough emotion," or "saying the right things."

In my view, anyone who tries to downplay or dismiss the enormous impact of what the President did and said last night probably will NEVER be satisfied with ANYTHING he says or does.

Like you, I haven't liked some of the things he has done, but all it takes is listening to him speak and the guy can make me melt. Whenever he gives a major speech it's like a big reminder of just what he stands for and hopes for. My wife and I wiped more than a few tears away ourselves.

Obama is a good person, he has great intentions, and he inspires in a manner that is almost surreal. That's a huge advantage for a politician nowadays. When you listen to him turn it on like that, you know it's gonna be very hard for him to be defeated in 2012. His communication skills have a great deal to do with what makes him such an elite campaigner.

The point you're trying to make that politicians don't live up to all of their campaign speeches applies to just about every politician who's ever run, not just Obama. While I might not have liked every one of his political decisions he's made since being in office, I like the majority of them, and I'm hoping he gets another term so he can continue doing good and so I can listen to him speak and inspire for 6 more years!
