Tonight's Unspoken Theme: An appreciation for government and its employees

Particularly notable in both the President's and Hernandez's speeches were consistent themes of appreciation for government employees, some of whom died in Saturday's attacks. Given the smears, attacks, disrespect and outright hatred that many hurl at government and government employees, lifting up these folks in the way they did was a lovely grace note in both speeches. And they did it subtly and elegantly so that it is unlikely to attract any criticism but, hopefully, will instead lead some folks to rethink their attitudes.
