Palin Aide:: Palin Death Threats have spiked
Death threats against Sarah Palin have reached an unprecedented level in recent days, an aide says.

In the wake of Saturday’s shooting of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords and others, the aide said that threats against Palin have spiked, ABC News reported.

The aide did not offer further details on the threats or whether Palin has taken additional security precautions.

Palin’s use of gun-related language and imagery, including a map that marked Giffords’ district with crosshairs, have provoked debate about national political discourse, even as evidence mounts that alleged gunman Jared Lee Loughner was driven by inner demons and his personal sentiments about the congresswoman.

Palin on Wednesday condemned journalists and pundits for “manufactur a blood libel that serves only to incite the very hatred and violence they purport to condemn.”

A video posted on YouTube earlier this week – and since removed – featured a collection of threats made against Palin on Twitter since the shooting.

“Can somebody please shoot Sarah Palin,” read one. Another said: “Ugh! All the wrong people get shot. Why doesn’t this kind of thing happen at a Sarah Palin event?”

1. Are we now supposed to feel sorry for her? I can't seem to find it in me,
though I wish her no harm. Maybe if she just went away permanently, she'd have nothing to worry about. Go fishing, go be a mommy, just go away!

28. I don't believe it.
I think her people made it up, and if there were threats on her Facebook page, I think her people put them there. More tries for sympathy. If they say black, I believe it's white. They are devious liars, capable of the lowest actions imaginable.

2. Smacks of desperation, to me...
Particularly since she got TMZ to report a story days ago and it went nowhere. She drummed up a story about a kid that had tormented her in the past at least to the point she had gotten a restraining order, but brought it back up to suggest he was on his way to Alaska and she felt threatened--less than a day from the shootings. Could it be true? Maybe, but I sincerely doubt it, especially since her good friends at TMZ were the only ones reporting it. I am convinced (as are others it was not simply convenient timing, but reflects an absolutely pathological need to be in the middle of the story---just as we saw today. None of the commnters on that story believed her either, btw...

You can go read this crap if you like... http://www.tmz.com/2011/01/10/sarah-palin-stalker-shawn...

More cries for attention and sympathy?

For all we know this is another embellishment. Also, who is to say the kooks she inspires aren't going to turn on her?

How are the attacks on this woman from the left any different than what the right does?

When everyone kept blaming her and the Tea Party folks for the tragedy in Tucson; I worried that someone would think it's a great idea to take her out too.

If words matter, then restraint should apply to the left as much as to the right. Goodness knows we don't need more tragedies in this country!!!

10. The left
doesn't take people out in general. That kind of a rightwing thing. (In this country. Obviously I'm not talking about communists in Russia or anything)

Plus, our leaders don't spout violent rhetoric and on most left-wing websites, violent rhetoric is taken down right away.

and mostly anti-gun.

all references to wanting to do violence or even HINTING at such things would be removed and the poster would be reprimanded or BANNED.

the right encourages gun play in their language.

we are OPPOSITES!!

45. Violent rhetoric is not limited to one side of the political spectrum.
Edited on Thu Jan-13-11 01:02 PM by Beacool
I think that some of the comments coming from our side have been too emotional. As much as I can't stand Palin's politics, she didn't take out a hit on anyone (as I read in a thread on this board). The blogs, and even the media, have been less than rational about it.

I wish that the woman would go back to Alaska and stayed there, but I don't wish her physically harm in any way.

My point is that the rhetoric has gotten out of hand from all sides and I hope that everybody tones it down before more people get hurt or, God forbid, killed.

:-(

49. I'm not saying we don't have over-the-top rhetoric.
We clearly do go overboard at times on the Left, I'm guilty of this I admit. I just haven't seen evidence that we're near as prone to violence and violent rhetoric as the other side.

9. She's the Munchausen Candidate
Seriously, forget the Manchurian Candidate. Sarah is the ultimate Munchausen Candidate. No matter what terrible thing happens in the news, she's affected. She's so desperate to be center of attention, that regardless of the event and regardless of the part she played in it, in the end, it's all about poor Sarah. I'm just so sick of her and the way the media can't just ignore her and make her GO AWAY!

repukes are desperate to look like the good guys. and they are pissed that Gabby Giffords is shining in the national spot light right now.

i wouldn't put it passed them to do something drastic to get the spotlight back on them and crybaby Boehner. Boehner isn't being a leader in any way shape or form right now, especially since he blew off attending the memorial so he could attend a fundraiser. He could have fundraised any day of the week, any month of the year.

31. Exactly
All these RWers who claim to get "death threats" from liberals/progressives NEVER provide actual names, nor do the police actually get involved.

And THINK of all the publicity they'd get from being PROVEN to be "targeted". It'd be leading news at FAUX for DAYS.

"But at a time when our discourse has become so sharply polarized - at a time when we are far too eager to lay the blame for all that ails the world at the feet of those who think differently than we do - it's important for us to pause for a moment and make sure that we are talking with each other in a way that heals, not a way that wounds."
