We have a job to do this week, my fellow Progressives.
We need to contact our Congress Reps and let them know we do not want Healthcare Reform repealed, and why.

We need to let them know what we want whether our rep is an R or D.... Especially if our Rep is a Republican... they need to know that they cannot say crap like "The American people spoke in the last election and want HCR repealed." Nope, they represent us as well.

The more we contact them, the better, imho.

Off to send Jeff Flake an email.

1. My email to Jeff Flake:
Rep Flake, I am asking you, begging you NOT to repeal Healthcare Reform.

PLEASE hear me out as you of the representative of me.

I have a beautiful daughter that is 21. She currently attends U of A as a Junior. She is on the Honor Roll and is studying to be a teacher.
Unfortunately she inherited her paternal grandmother's thyroid. Just one week ago she had to have a portion of her thyroid removed. Now she has a "pre-existing condition" and she has to be followed by specialists. She will turn 22 while still in school, and if she gets kicked off of our Healthcare, what is she suppose to do? Not follow up with her doctors? Not got the necessary tests she needs?

Hopefully once she graduates she will be able to find a teaching job, and hopefully they will offer health insurance. AND hopefully they will not deny her for her pre-existing condition. But in the meantime, she does need health insurance, and we want her to continue on our policy.

Make changes to the law if you want, but please do not take healthcare away from my daughter and to other people with pre-existing conditions.

Thank you - Jill xxxxxx

-------------------------
I really hope more people will join me in letting our voices be heard & telling our stories how HCR has benefited them or their families.:hi:

6. My rep is an author of the healthcare bill
He's spoken out repeatedly about how repeal makes no sense at all. Contacting him would be preaching to the choir (and his office already knows who I am anyways--- not like it is a bad thing).

7. We need to let them know but don't we also have to let the Senate
know to hold the line? If the House passes it they will get nowhere as long as the Senate refuse to follow. And if worse comes to worse President Obama needs to veto it regardless.

Mine is pukie too, and I have always said that they above all others need to hear it; even if they refuse to act on our wishes, they still have to know.

10. Lol - good luck with that :) But he definitely needs to hear from his progressive constituents.
Maybe you should add a couple of extra 'e's at the end of some words so he can understand.

11. and here's my email...
On behalf of my friend's daughter Marissa who can now stay on her mom's health care plan until age 26, my father who now pays less for prescription drugs and my cousin who will have access to affordable health insurance despite having Downs Syndrome, I ask that you VOTE AGAINST any effort to repeal the health care bill.

"To every thing there is a season," and the time for showy displays of partisan rhetoric is over. It's time to get to work on improving our economy and helping more Americans get back to work.

I thank you for your service.

(my Rep is a Republican obviously)

13. "Real" progressives would do well to repeal this corporatist HCR bill
Edited on Sun Jan-16-11 11:08 PM by golfguru
For profit private insurers (FPPI) get a gift of millions of additional paying
customers with mandates.

There is not a single restraint on premium hikes by FPPI in the bill.
The FPPI's are free to increase your premiums as high as necessary until
their profit goals are met.

The HCR bill prohibits drug importation! Big gift to big pharma!

No competition to FPPI from PUBLIC OPTION to keep rate hikes under control.

Competition to FPPI from across the state lines by other FPPI's is prohibited.
So each state FPPI's are operating as monopolies without outside competition.

The only real good aspects of the HCR bill are the non-cancellation clause
and the non-refusal based on pre-conditions. Those should stay but other items
listed above need a consumer oriented reform.

16. You should definitely send this to your congressperson. Let them know what you want ADDED, but pls
don't ask them to take away from the people whose lives were positively impacted by HCR.

Tell them more needs to be done - I agree with you on many points.

19. Sorry I sound so harsh to go against the HCR bill
as it passed, but I feel obligated to show item by item how
the private corporations are the big winners in this bill.

The paramount problem with health care for middle class is COST.
Until that issue is addressed it is not a good thing.

24. Making this argument without a solution is irrelevant
Edited on Mon Jan-17-11 12:52 PM by ProSense
The solution is to fix the bill not repeal it and replace it with a similar bill

"There is not a single restraint on premium hikes by FPPI in the bill.

their profit goals are met."

Yes there are

25. Come on....some CAliforians were just handed a 57% increase
Edited on Mon Jan-17-11 11:02 PM by golfguru
I would have liked to see yearly premium hikes tied to CPI in some way.
My own health insurance for 2011 has jumped by bigger amount than any previous
years going back to 1986.

With republicans in charge of House for next 2 years, I am not hopeful of any
thing which will be consumer friendly. It will be more corporate friendly. The
best time to push through a consumer friendly bill was when our party had solid
majorities.

My rep is Jeff Flake who thinks his job is not to spend a dime unless it's for tax breaks- nothing, nada, not one penny for the people he represents.

Edited on Mon Jan-17-11 07:44 AM by RBInMaine
those so called "progressives" who trashed it to no end during the debate instead of being realistic, understanding it was a GOOD first step, and should have been out there hammering down the TeaSCUM instead of trashing the bill. And, many of these were the same who stayed home and allowed TeaSCUM to win congressional races. LIVE AND FUCKING LEARN !! Thank God we have a Dem Senate and Dem Prez so this RePUKE repeal will FAIL BIGTIME !! GOD BLESS THE DEMOCRATS !!
