N.C. Rep. McHenry will lead TARP probe
Does anyone know if the rethugs have proposed anything new, now that they have all this power? Are they invested in ANYTHING that will improve the lot of their constituents? I can't think of a thing.

N.C. Rep. McHenry will lead TARP probe

By Barbara Barrett | McClatchy Newspapers

WASHINGTON — Republicans on the top congressional investigations panel will launch hundreds of hearings on the Obama administration in the coming year — and one of the chief oversight agents will be U.S. Rep. Patrick McHenry.

McHenry, 35, is no stranger to partisan politics on the national stage, establishing himself over the past three terms as a solid conservative and eager irritant to Democrats when they were in charge.

But with Republicans now in charge of the House, McHenry will take the lead role on the Subcommittee on TARP, Financial Services and Bailouts of Public and Private Programs. That puts him in charge of probing some of the key concerns of U.S. Rep. Darrell Issa, the California Republican who chairs the full House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform.

"There's plenty of oversight that needs to be done," McHenry said in an interview last week. "There's plenty to look at in terms of government inefficiency, duplicative programs, how decisions will be made."

6. In all probability no
However the so-called "Party of Responsibility" seems to have endless ways of spinning themselves crazy to avoid ANY responsibility for anything. What exactly are they going to probe in regards to the Obama Administration and TARP? Republicans don't want stronger oversight for TARP, they don't care about obscene corporate salaries (and bonuses), want to apologize for companies whom don't take the necessary precautions against ecological disasters, want to gut the financial reform legislation passed last year, and want to hound Elizabeth Warren and the CPA more than, say, BP.

5. How many hearings will it take before they learn it was Paulson, Bush's Treasury secretary
and the Bush administration that was in office when TARP was approved, Not only that - most of that money has been repaid and it is possible a major financial collapse was averted.

7. How about a hearing on his connection to the Florida GOP murder-suicide?
Now McHenry has been connected to the triple murder-suicide in Orlando last month in which the closeted gay former executive director of the Georgia GOP, Ralph Gonzalez, and his straight roommate, David Abrami, were shot by Jason Robert Drake, a gay ex-Marine.

Originally portrayed as a lover’s quarrel among the three men, recently developed particulars of the case have revealed Drake’s entanglement with a murder related to gay prostitution services in the Washington, D.C., area. It has also come to light that Rep. McHenry was an associate of Gonzalez and Gonzalez’ killer:

When I spoke to McHenry’s office about this they at first insisted they never heard of Drake then, confronted with specifics, admitted they know him. They refused to put Congressman McHenry on the phone. There is every indication that McHenry may have been one of the Republican elected officials who was using the services of the gay prostitution agency connected to Drake.
