Law enforcement official: MLK parade bomb unprecedentedly dangerous, "worst device...I've ever seen"
Edited on Thu Jan-20-11 09:14 PM by TheWraith
A law enforcement official speaking to the press today described the bomb planted along the Martin Luther King Day parade route in Spokane as being highly sophisticated:

The bomb, which was defused without incident on Monday, was the most potentially destructive he had ever seen, said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he is not authorized to release information about the investigation.

"They haven't seen anything like this in this country," the official said. "This was the worst device, and most intentional device, I've ever seen."

This has the potential to get bad.

1. Lots of people getting good IED OJT...
...in the sandbox, and coming home angry.

2. Not to mention, the lower recruiting standards in the war means they're taking skinheads.
The military has rules against recruiting members of gang-type organizations, but those rules can be overlooked when you're trying to fill a quota.

3. Looks like some used the military as a "finishing school"
I agree with the other poster who said some skin heads used the military as a finishing school. Lower standards to enlist......what does one expect?

4. Look at it this way...
Maybe their skill in building IEDs has improved somewhat, but in terms of placing the IED so that it escapes detection, they're still just as fucking stupid as they've always been. And we may take some small comfort in this fact.

5. Very small comfort, since this was mostly luck.
Despite some confused reports, there were no wires sticking out of the bag--it's entirely luck and diligence that someone saw the thing and examined inside it.
