Being constipated for several months? Or having diarrhea on an every 2 hour schedule.

6. Progressive? It's full of Republican theory
too much regulation, corporate taxes are too high, escalate the "free trade" labor wars, nice he compliments teachers, but then turns around and reinforces the "bad teacher" meme? WTF? Better than the alternative? Yes. Progressive? That's a freaking laugh!

Please, point me to that line in the speech.

26. He said that corporate tax rates are too high, not that the amount corporations pay is too high
He acknowledged the fact that many corporations don't pay taxes because of loopholes an that this needs to end.

22. Not what he said. And, not surprisingly, not what most of the affected institutions think.
These schools would not have minded having military recruiters on campus--except for the fact that DADT meant that there would be discrimination based on sexual orientation.

Here is a letter that speaks to the matter from the dean of UC Hastings, a law school in San Francisco:

http://www.uchastings.edu/careers/docs/40.deansletter.pdf

UC Hastings nondiscrimination policy provides that we do not make our career services facilities available to
employers who discriminate in the selection of employees on the basis of national origin, race, religion, gender,
sexual orientation, age, handicap or any other basis prohibited by law. The purpose of this policy is to foster and
build a campus community that values and practices mutual respect and inclusiveness.

A federal law, known as the Solomon Amendment, first enacted in 1997, speaks directly to the issue of military
recruitment on college and university campuses. The Solomon Amendment provides that a college or university
may be denied certain federal funding if the college or university denies the military the same facilities offered
to all other employers.

A number of law schools and law professors challenged the constitutionality of the Solomon amendment in
Rumsfeld v. FAIR. On March 6, 2006, the Supreme Court rejected the argument that the Solomon amendment
interfered with the first amendment rights of law schools and upheld the constitutionality of the Solomon
Amendment. Thus the Solomon Amendment remains binding and enforceable on UC Hastings as well as on all
law schools and other university units across the nation.

<snip>

The decision to allow the military to recruit on the campus should not be interpreted as one supportive of the
military’s still current policy of discriminating against gays and lesbians. It is because service to our nation is
such an honored tradition deserving of our respect that we believe it important to ensure all members of our
society are able to participate as equals. Our hope is DADT will soon be fully repealed and all of our students
will be able to pursue any career path they desire, including the path of devoting their professional lives to the
protection and defense of their country.

29. Fairly progressive if you do it the way he asks
if you get rid of the loopholes so that the vast majority of corporations that currently pay nothing start paying, then a reduction in rate would probably get more revenue than the current plan. One only works with the other which is why it is good to not pull issues out of context.

30. The past is prologue
There will be a `compromise` where Obama will agree to drop getting rid of the loopholes if republicans agree to lower the tax rate...or something equally fucked up and mindless.

33. anything but mindless
I don't see mindlessness anywhere in a single thing that has been accomplished. I may not agree with all of it, but then I never do. Given the context, I remain fairly impressed with what he has done. As much as one would care to avoid it, life is invariably lived in context.
