CBS Polling: 92% Overwhelming positive response to SOTU
CBS Polling: 92% Overwhelming positive response to SOTU

After the SOTU, post opinion is often instant, and currently seems intent on discussing the reduced energy in the room due to the Prom Season, likely to continue. I believe it made things easier to listen to and quieter.

CBS Tweets:

robhendin: CBS's Anthony Mason says viewers polled were "overwhelmingly positive" ; said Obama gained 27 points in approval on plans for economy

CBSWashUnplug: Polling by @CBSNews shows overwhelming positive response to #SOTU: 92% approve of proposals laid out, 62% believe parties can work together About 7 minutes ago

Since you're not a big poster, what was it about this story that compelled you to comment like that? Polls are posted all the freeking time here.

17. I already heard that one.
And another one: "...asking Congress to eliminate the billions in taxpayer dollars we currently give to oil companies." Which, I'm sure, brings us back to the parties working together again.

It fell flat, as I recall.

Someone somewhere mentioned something about smoked salmon and the Borscht Belt.

I heard something about bootstraps, and someone claiming "I can't afford boots."

I should have taken notes.

On Edit:

"Filmmaker and liberal political commentator Michael Moore wrote on his Twitter feed, referencing the president's opening call for unity and respect between the parties: "Soon a fresh water salmon will sit next to a salt water salmon in the spirit of civility."

21. I was snoring by then, so I wouldn't know how it was received.
I actually did fall asleep during the speech but Hissyspit posted a link to a draft of the SOTU before the speech was given, so I had already read it. If it fell flat, maybe it was because people weren't comfortable with a Democrat telling a very Republican joke.

22. Government is such a mess! Why don't we privatize the whole shebang?
HAHAHAHA!

I'm sure they'll run it again on YOUTube. My migraine may have colored my perception.

Fracking for natural gas is a "cleaner" way to get energy. That's a knee-slapper. 85 different toxic chemicals can't make that statement wrong, can they?

11. it's almost as if it were written by and for the polls.
education good. deficits bad. jobs good. taxes bad. tax loopholes bad, too. economy better. people still suffering.

work together. we're #1. pollution bad. clean coal is renewable. ice cream good. dog poop bad.

There weren't too many short-term solutions offered, and those that were have already been halfway implemented through the stimulus to tepid effects. If he's suggesting more of the same, we have a hard road ahead - especially with a split congress.

maybe the SOTU isn't the time or place to take the discussion to the next level, but if our leadership keeps taking the non-controversial route, we'll be mired in shit for years to come.

26. +100!
Goes to show the power of the media and the state of the country.

Most of the population thinks they should not have to pay taxes but want to do so while having a high level of services. Seems all you have to do is tell them what they want to hear.

23. Not according to the fair & balanced Fox News & their panel! Surprise!
I watched CNN, MSNBC, and Fox News, flipping among them after the speech to see what they all said about it.

Fox had its usual panel of mixed Republican and Democratic people (yeah, right). The guy asked who thought the speech exceeded their expectations. 2 people held up their hands. He then asked who thought the speech fell short. All the rest of the about 20 people held up their hands. What a surprise!

The few Democrats they had in the panel were, as usual, not exactly stellar representatives of that side.

Then Bret Hume and the other "fair and balanced" broadcasters all agreed that the corporate tax thing was good, but other than that, Obama had failed miserably and talked repeatedly about spending, spending, spending.

I'm wondering....did they see/hear the same speech that I did?

35. He might suggest people start voting out people who never do that
and never will.

The english language is a beautiful thing and President Obama is a nice guy, very smart, has lots of help from good writers. He could find a nice way to break it to americans that they will have to stop voting into office people who don't care about getting the job done.

It's a SPEECH.

For public consumption.

He is widely known to be good at them.

It's not a committee appointment, veto, proposed legislation, or anything else that makes a difference - or at least not any more difference than http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=102x4711164">this
