Iowa Rep. Boswell Gets Another Republican Opponent

The field of Republican candidates challenging Rep. Leonard L. Boswell (D) continues to grow.

Mark Rees, a retired architect, recently filed a statement of candidacy and a statement of organization with the Federal Election Commission to begin a campaign in Iowa's 3rd district, which includes the state capital of Des Moines.

Rees planned to announce his candidacy later Monday in West Des Moines, according to The Iowa Independent.

Rees is joining a Republican field that already includes Dave Funk, an aviation security consultant; Jim Gibbons, a former wrestling coach at Iowa State University; and state Sen. Brad Zaun.

The primary election will be held June 8 and the candidate filing deadline is March 19.

CQ Politics currently rates the race Likely Democratic.
