I really hope that those of our leaders who govern for the corporations over the people
are watching what is happening in the middle east...and taking it seriously.
People everywhere actually do have the right to self determination.

well being into consideration and that people DO HAVE THE RIGHT-guaranteed by the US Constitution-to change that government when it is no longer doing so...and that "our leaders" ought to pay attention to the happenings in the middle east as a reminder of this.

If you have a problem with this, you have a problem with America, not with me.

11. Won't happen here...we haven't been pushed to the brink enough.
We have lost wealth in terms of wages, etc. But we are able to vote, use the internet, etc. We have protests here but nothing that gathers enough steam to be as big as Egypt. We also simply have too many people with too many different opinions. We don't come together on much of anything in this country.

18. I really think you are correct, especially about the huge size of the US...
The last time there was serious and effective nationwide protest was during the Vietnam war, and that melted away after the draft was ended.

FWIW, I have NO intention of minimizing those who have engaged in protests since then, or now-they are just not in the majority as they were for a short time back then.

And you are also correct, we do not live under dictators or military thugs, as so many all over the earth do...at least not at this point.

I would certainly be happy if our leaders had more real concern for the American People rather than political ideology or personal gain and ego satisfaction.

20. I think the "depression" was not serious enough to really bring the people out...
Remember that in the Great Depression beginning in 1929, US unemployment reached 25% in the mid 1930's and was only brought below 10% by our beginning production of war materiel for Europe in 1940 and our later entry into WWII in late 1941.

FWIW, I have heard extremeist republicans saying the same about the unemployed in the great depression as they are saying about them now-they are lazy and will not work by choice...and also that "while 25% were out of work, 75% had jobs, so things were not so bad..."They never have anything new or real to say...

But it took over twice the unemployment we have now to generate regional strikes and union activity...I am not surprised there is little going on here. We still have it good compared to many in the world.
