After Marching Rightward, the Maverick McCain May Be Back
Question: how does he keep any credibility with the media?

OK, I know. Stupid question. The question should be: how does the MSM keep any credibility? But we're going to get another period of McCain love!

So, is the redoubtable maverick back? One longtime McCain watcher thinks so. "It appears Mac is back on track to be a player of significance and importance on the center stage of American politics," notes his old friend and adviser Mark McKinnon of the 74-year-old Arizona senator. "The Lion in winter is starting to roar."

1. Of course
He's not running for president again, he has a fresh 6 year term ahead of him, and probably won't run again. He doesn't have to appease the teabaggers again.

But he will continue to be a publicity hound and all around pain in the ass.

6. Why?
What has he done that could be considered "mavericky"? He's done nothing but trash President Obama since he took office and has helped obstruct anything and everything he could last Congress.

:wtf:

9. The LION??? Oh hell no!!!
Call me a little sensitive... but that was our dear departed Ted Kennedy's nickname.

McCain is no lion of winter OR the senate.

18. Be fair - give Kennnedy the honor of lion of the Senate -
and McCain the Lion in Winter. Having seen a great version of the play last year, I don't think calling someone the lion in winter is necessarily a good thing - it ends rather badly.

12. Bitter McCain and his daughter cannot accept the loss of the 2008 election.
McCain serves no positive purpose.

13. Maverick, Smaverick. He is and always has been a conservative Republican. Prove me wrong.
He is disagreeable, which is not the same thing as being a maverick, in my book.
Anyway, what is so great about a Maverick? They were kind of crappy cars. I had one. Burned oil like crazy and leaked both power steering and transmission fluid.

14. I would say he is a reactionary republican
Conservatives are satisfied with the status quo. Reactionaries want to slam reality into reverse gear and floor it.

Oh, you mean the McCain who "never claimed to be a maverick"?

The guy's so senile--he's probably just swinging back the other way because he doesn't have to answer to the teabaggers for another 6 years.

And fuck that "lion" thing. Ted Kennedy will ALWAYS be the lion of the Senate.

17. McKinnon needs to rewatch the movie or see the play,
if he likes McCain, he needs to know that the "Lion in Winter" did not end well. (Unless that is the point - and the political "children" of McCain will all fight with each other and betray him. )
